Tell me about the role: Under direct supervision, the Instrument Technician is responsible for cleaning and reprocessing a variety endoscopes and accessories, use of the eprocessing machine and all related functions, and maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Assists with cleaning other patient care related equipment including gurneys, stretchers and other equipment and items following infection control policies and procedure. Performs sterile processing functions and assorted support duties in decontamination, manual cleaning and clean assembly areas in a safe and technical manner consistent with department, as well as CSMCF policies and procedures. This may include assignments to areas typically under the guidance of Infection Preventionist or Clinical Area Supervisor. Why Work Here?

Performs and maintains competencies in the reprocessing of endoscopes and scope washers.
Identifies actual or potential problems with the integrity of endoscopes and assists in arranging for repairs.
Maintains documentation related to the inventory and repair of endoscopes.
Demonstrates an awareness of the daily schedule and maintains a steady level of productivity.
Maintains compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, BBP and biohazard waste removal), accreditation standards, best practices, and Center policy and procedures that impact patient, employee and environmental safety, and reports observations of non-compliance.
Implements related infection control practices to prevent the potential for cross-contamination.
Performs manual and mechanical cleaning methods, cleaning implements and equipment (automated flushing systems and reprocessors).
Performs pre-cleaning and transport of used scopes and accessories as required.
Use of high level disinfectants (chemicals, use of test strips, exposure time, shelf and use life).
Demonstrates a working knowledge of endoscopic supplies and equipment.
Implements related infection control practices to prevent the potential for cross-contamination.
Performs leakage testing procedures, test methods, and actions required following a failed leak test.
Accurately completes all required logs.
Orders and stocks supply and medical inventory.
Participates in the Center's QAPI program.
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma and/or GED
Preferred Completion of a formal or on-the-job endoscope reprocessing training program and ability to demonstrate competency.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements
Basic Life Support from American Heart Association and/or the American Red Cross
Experience
1 year Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist experience to include decontamination, wrapping, sterilization and infection control of basic instrumentation or related field preferred
