The Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a Per-Diem Histology Technician to support technical laboratory personnel in day-to-day operations of the Histology Laboratories in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
This is per-diem position will provide support for a large, high-volume, Anatomic Pathology Laboratories operation in histology services and immunohistochemistry. The per-diem candidate will fill-in for histology technicians staff out on PTO, sick or on leave or volume overflow.
The per-diem histology technician will be responsible for the preparation and processing of pathology specimens for the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory and will support the day-to-day operations of the Histology Laboratories part of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
The incumbent will perform routine and special paraffin sections of surgical and autopsy tissue for the microscopic examination in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Prepare manually or using equipment for processing, embedding, sectioning and special staining which also includes IHC.Â The incumbent will label, record and send out slides of tissue to the Pathologist for microscopic examination and diagnosis; perform frozen cryostat sections as required.Â Incumbent will also assist with making work assignments; helping in the training of new personnel, and also provide technical guidance to laboratory personnel as required. Â Incumbent will assist with maintaining current and increased work/volume that will support our TATâs and quality of service standards to ensure patient safety and be incompliance with all regulatory requirements under CLIA88 and CAP.Â

Minimum Education: Related undergraduate studyMinimum Experience: 1 year, Combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experienceMinimum Field of Expertise: Courses in biology and chemistry, histotechnician experience in a clinical laboratory.
