The Director, Human Resources, will manage a core suite of generalist human resources services in the Zuckerman Institute. Working closely with the Senior Director and exemplifying innovation and top-notch customer service skills, will support, implement and evaluate human resources activities meeting Institute goals and initiatives related to the officers of administration lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, performance management, leave management, as examples. This role serves as a strong generalist for questions asked and answers given supporting all levels of faculty, staff and researchers, instilling confidence and efficient turnaround.
This role will be one of the primary contacts in human resources executing creative and timely resolution of HR generalist issues with professionalism and precision, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction. This role assumes a demanding balance between customer service, clear communications, regulatory consistency and supportive relationship management within a continually growing Institute.
Serves as an internal HR resource to provide general guidance, including general benefits information, disability leaves of absence, employee relations, learning and development, tuition and general HR policies. Act as trusted advisor. Assist leaders new to management.
Manages non-research roles, including analyzing and approving job descriptions, compensation, grade levels and hiring categories for new hiring and existing roles. Oversees staffing plans to ensure accurate position management and workforce plans. Manages compensation metrics to ensure data driven decisions. Recommend updates to job descriptions to ensure cost effectiveness, market competitiveness and internal equity among employees to submit to Central HR for approval.
Manages the recruitment life cycle for non-research roles, including creating an ad placement strategy, including social media and websites, analyzing ROI on ads placed; in tandem with the hiring managers, vet, screen, interview and help select candidates; manage Talent Link process up to and including onboarding, complying with all University procedures.
Supports Institute program for onboarding and orientation for new hires; makes recommendations and create communications to support new hires, transfers and promotions; works closely with hiring managers to ensure new hires are transitioned to their new roles and integrated to the Institute in a smooth and informative and welcoming manner. Conducts New Hire Orientation sessions and initial onboarding for newly hired or transferred non-research employees.
Develops, prepares, generates and analyzes ongoing and ad-hoc special reports pertaining to employee data: turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, applicant tracking, compensation, payroll, promotions, etc. effectively using PAC and Salesforce.
Works with internal and external departments to promptly resolve customer service issues in a professional and timely manner.
Manages JLGSC building access requests for non-staff and visitors aligned with University compliance, with the goal to support our Institute wide initiatives.
Initiates personnel actions and electronic transactions to support payroll activities, additional compensation and other transactions in support of admin management in PeopleSoft; supervising one officer of administration with these duties.
Maintains and expands knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws/regulations affecting human resource management. Identify trends that could affect organizational objectives and/or operational resources.
Handles other HR projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor???s degree required; minimum five years' related experience required in human resources; supervisory experience needed. Higher education setting is preferred. SHRM certification strongly preferred.
Must have a growth mindset and be able to work with all levels of faculty students and staff; needs to be agile and react to shifting demands while providing a high level of service and the have the unique ability to independently resolve issues and diffuse complaints, while maintaining honesty and transparency i.e. adhering to Federal, State, City and University regulations at all times. Requires exceptional organizational skills as well as computer proficiency needed (Microsoft Office, Salesforce and Peoplesoft as example) and possess a desire to learn and problem solve. Must maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and diplomacy at all times and exhibit a high level of professionalism, be customer service driven and flexible in attitude. Must be capable of working independently with little supervision, as well as serve as a productive team member serving a high-profile division.
