The Administrator, Laboratory Services, under the direction of senior hospital administration, serves as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, administering and overseeing the daily operations of the Laboratory Department and ensures the delivery of patient-centered, cost-effective quality care, and a culture of safety across the continuum of care. Ensures optimal utilization of resources and compliance with clinical laboratory standards, resulting in improved outcomes and patient experience.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Directs and supervises the Staff and support department, coordinates special services and coordinates activities or related support and professional services departments. • Prepares operating plans, drafts of plans, policies, programs and procedures. Implements improved systems and procedures, monitors systems, controls and audits programs. • Makes studies of adequacy and effectiveness of general administrative and support services and makes recommendations. • Prepares data for budget preparation, operating and statistical reports, analysis and makes recommendation. • Monitors requisitioning, availability, functionality of supplies, equipment and materials for administrative, professional and support services activities and ensure compliance with hospital policies. • Prepares studies on patient care standards, makes analysis and prepares recommendations. • Attends management staff meetings, conferences and consults with Medical and support services department. • May represent Hospital Administration in hospital functions and programs. • Supervises all aspects of laboratory functions to ensure that all JCAHO, NYS standards and other accrediting and regulatory agencies are met. • Coordinates/designates personnel to ensure that all Proficiencies Surveys and other inspections are properly handled, reports/results submitted and documented in timely manner.

1. Holds and maintains a Clinical Laboratory Technologist License issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and meets one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 10, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public Health Law; and 2. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Biology, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences or a related field; and five (5) years of experience overseeing laboratory operations, creating and establishing laboratory programs and reviewing and interpreting safety data, in a hospital or health care setting, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or 3. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the fields described in “2” above; and, seven (7) years of laboratory experience as described in “2” above, five (5) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or 4. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered by the NYSED to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist and meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor, as described in “1” above.
