Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is looking to hire a part-timeClinical Research Assistant to support an oncology tissue repository in a collaboration with the Department of Defense. The project aims to utilize collected clinical and biological data to research cancer detection, prevention, and treatment/cure.
ABOUT THE RESEARCH ASSISTANT ROLE
The Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Research Coordinator in obtaining biological samples and processing of those samples. Duties will also include consenting of patients, obtaining the epidemiology questionnaire, and assisting with data collection.
This is a part-time position, offering up to 10 hours a week, competitive hourly compensation, sick pay, 401(k) with a fully vested 6% company match, wellness program, commuter benefits, and professional development training.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES OF A RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Aid the Principal Investigator (PI) in data collection using study protocol
Check data for completeness and follow-up
Assist with the collection and processing of biological samples (urine, blood, saliva)
Collect tissue samples from the operating room and process with the Pathology Department
Assist the Research Coordinator with screening, recruiting, and meeting with study subjects
Explain the study procedures to study subjects
Obtain informed consent per defined protocol
Answer any study-related questions from the study subjects
Assist with tracking study subjects for follow-up assessments, e.g., epidemiological questionnaire
Aid PI in maintaining records and research compliance
Assist with other study-related duties as needed, such as shipping biological specimens
Assist in maintenance of study related documents and regulatory documents
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
1 year of experience in a research environment, including recruiting and screening study subjects, collecting and analyzing data, processing biological samples;
Good interpersonal skills in order to interact with study subjects;
Knowledge of clinical research processes such as consenting and IRB protocol;
Good time-management and prioritization skills;
Accurate record keeping and attention to detail;
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;
Able to read and understand the study protocol;
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Environmental Conditions: Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
