Department: PCE - Proteomics Ctr of Exc Salary/Grade: NEX/10 Job Summary: Provides support to perform the required standard operating procedures of the Core Research Facility. This includes the execution of research activities associated with established protocols. Works with Core Technician or Sr Core Technician in utilizing the facility's specialized equipment and services. This position serves the Proteomics Core within the Proteomics Center of Excellence (PCE), the National Resource for Developmental and Translational Proteomics (NRTDP). Under the direct supervision of the Operations Director, this position is to carry out basic research activities in chemistry and translational sciences; conduct tests and procedures; set up and operates equipment; records observations and measurements and collects and compiles data in a research lab. The Assistant Core Specialist will be trained to perform comprehensive proteomics sample preparation along with general techniques including SDS-PAGE gels, in-gel digestion, in-solution digestion, and chromatographic separation of proteins and peptides. The Assistant Core Specialist will also assist in reagent preparation, routine equipment maintenance and other tasks as required. This position requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques; meticulous record keeping of client samples and inventory/ordering tasks. Specific Responsibilities: Administration: - Performs intake functions for the laboratory such as logging of samples and service requests, and the dissemination of basic information to users (i.e., minimum requirements for services, costs, etc.).

Scientific: - Conducts experiments, assays, and records results.
- Reads and follows experimental protocols.
- Calculates, compiles, and communicates results to the Core Scientist.
Technical: - Prepares and operates equipment for experiments, assays, measurements, etc.
- Supports the execution and facilitation of specialized services.
- Assists in performing minor equipment repairs, according to manufacturer and University guidelines.
- Abides by all University, sponsor and federal rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications: - Successful completion of a full 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to an associate's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- 1 year of technical or other relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor degree in basic science.
- 2 years of technical or other relevant experience required
