Casey Eye Institute, department of Ophthalmology at OHSU, is recruiting for a 0.5-1.0 FTE Research Study Coordinator position. The study coordinator will work under the guidance of division Clinical Research Coordinators to help maintain study recruitment and follow-up within the study protocols. This position requires rotating through various clinics, such as Retina, Uveitis and Cornea as required by study recruitment efforts. - Coordinates clinical trials, enrolls, schedules and corresponds with study participants, acts as liaison to industry sponsors of research studies, clinical research organizations, the Federeal Drug Administration, and other participating centers, maintains study databases and files, creates and monitors study budgets, and generates and processes invoices.
- Provides ophthalmic assistance to the Uveitis, Retina and Cornea division faculty, fellow and rotating resident, providing ancillary screening and testing as necessary.
- Perform ophthalmic screening/testing evaluations on patients for the principal investigators. Screening tests will include but are not limited to Snellen & ETDRS vision, applanation tonometry, manifest & ETDRS refraction.
- Maintains careful and accurate recording of data onto case report forms, uploading of data to the central database/reading centers, and maintaining study binders.
- Willingness to learn regulatory guidelines, record-keeping and other procedures relevant to human subjects studies, including Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and oversight. Successful applicants must be willing to maintain/obtain CPR certification.
- Participate in continuing education courses and activities. Have knowledge of and be able to practice JCAHO clinical guidelines. Demonstrate competence in all required skills during skills evaluations.
- Provides high quality customer service to patients, OHSU faculty, referring providers (including PCPs and their office staff), co-workers, and other OHSU staff. Sets an example in training new employees. Maintains a high standard of patient-interaction skills and is exemplary in addressing patient complaints when necessary.
- Bachelors Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research/No Experience.
- Must be able to perform ophthalmic tests and exams as specified above. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Professional demeanor. Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Windows, Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and related computer applications. Proficiency in University Network computer applications using A2k, LCR, Order Entry and SMS applications. Basic computer keyboard skills include typing of at least 30-45 WPM. Must complete required Epic training for Ophthalmic Technicians. Upon completion of Epic training for Ophthalmic Technicians, must be able to accurately abstract from existing paper charts, and accurately enter patient history and data into Epic, and must have/maintain working knowledge and use of Epic system as required for Ophthalmic Technicians. Must complete Basic Cadence (scheduling system) training. Required completion of Advanced Cadence training or Earl (referral) training is division specific.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and professional demeanor. Patient advocacy skills - evaluate patient concerns for timely resolution. Sensitivity to patient needs. Ability to meet deadlines and urgent patient and system needs. Ability to work independently; willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model. Must have demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance in past and present.
- COT certification within first year of employment. BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA), provider level. Initial certification is the responsibility of the employee. Renewal certification classes/cost provided by OHSU if job required.
Completion of an accredited training program such as Ophthalmic Technician Program, Ophthalmic Medical Personnel Training Program, Eye Care Assistant Program, Ophthalmic Assistant Program, Ophthalmic Clinical Assistant Program, Ophthalmic Medical Assistant Program, Ophthalmic Medical Technology; OR AA in Ophthalmic Technology from an accredited school; OR Current certification as a certified ophthalmic technician (COA) or higher; OR BA/BS or in Health Care, Science or Research related field AND 1 year of clinical/lab experience conducting preliminary screening/vision testing to include specialized tests and visual fields. Two years experience in and knowledge of various aspects of clinical trials. Proven skills in interacting with patients in a study environment. 2 years of clinical/lab experience conducting preliminary screening/vision testing to include specialized tests and visual fields.
