General DescriptionThe Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University is recruiting a board-certified Ophthalmologist to serve as the Medical Director for the Frederick, MD Clinical Practice Location (CPL). This individual will oversee a clinical operations team to include providers, Practice Manager/Supervisor, technical and administrative staff and students. Provides strategic oversight for their location as well as serving as the liaison for the larger Wilmer/JHH/JHU community. Promotes and exemplifies trust, cooperation and professionalism for his/her team and among members of the broader JH Community. Comprehensive ophthalmologists and sub-specialty fellowship trained applicants are all welcomed. Major Responsibilities: - Establishes CPL goals related to quality-of-care, customer service/patient satisfaction, and access-to-care and ensures alignment with JHH, SOM and Wilmer Strategic Goals. Continuously monitors and modifies goals, when necessary, to ensure attainment.
- Provides team leadership by actively participating in clinical, academic, educational and administrative activities. Leads by example.
- Works to maximize clinical performance and clinical efficiency. Partners with administrative leadership to promote efficiency and appropriate resource allocation/utilization. Strives for continuous quality improvement.
- Ensures clinical compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements as well as internal policies and bylaws.
- Formulates long-range plan for location to include all aspects of Divisional activities.
- Partners with Practice Manager to ensure an optimally-staffed clinic comprised of a diverse and engaged workforce.
- Monitors and looks for ways to improve staff performance and engagement. Helps educate and develop location faculty and staff.
- Provides annual faculty reviews with written summaries for those faculty members assigned as "home practice location" and communicates results to Division Chief in faculty member's subspecialty as well as Vice Chair of Supervising Location, when appropriate.
- Mentors junior faculty and senior staff by helping to formulate a development plan for long-term success and regularly reviewing progress with them.
- Discusses faculty performance with the Department Chair to assist in determining promotions, raises and bonuses.
- In conjunction with the Practice Manager and Wilmer Administration, responsible for hiring and firing decisions.
- Assists in creating and implementing a marketing plan for new and existing providers.
- Works closely with Development team.
- Fosters clinical research development. Provides support for clinical research endeavors.
- Oversees CPL educational efforts to include continuing medical education for clinical staff and faculty. Provides medical student education by supporting resident clinical rotations, where indicated, and supporting fellowship-program rotations or location-based fellowships, if appropriate. Ensures compliance with AUPO guidelines.
- Works with senior administrative leadership to develop the CPL budget. Regularly monitors the budget to review/revise or course-correct, if necessary.
- Prepares Business Plans for business initiatives such as location expansions, addition of new faculty or major equipment purchases.
- Holds regular meetings of faculty and staff leadership (at least monthly) to review location performance and to take appropriate actions.
- Meets with individual providers, as needed, to provide feedback on key performance indicators such as operational, financial, compliance, communication, teamwork, etc..
- Responsible for aesthetics and functionality of clinical, research, and administrative space within the CPL.
- Participates in Departmental leadership activities, as appropriate.
