The CARB-X team is virtual, based in multiple countries across different time zones. The four values that CARB-X prioritizes across the organization are collaboration, humility, integrity and excellence. The work environment is creative, dynamic and energetic.
CARB-X advances early-stage product development, funding R&D projects from lead discovery to the completion of first-in-human trials (and occasionally beyond). It provides non-dilutive funding, scientific expertise, regulatory support, and business acceleration tools to product developers worldwide, especially small- and medium-sized companies and university product development teams.
Since 2017, the year of the first investment, CARB-X has supported the development of more than 100 products, 22 of which entered or completed first-in-human clinical trials. Among these, 3 are on the market and 10+ have advanced development partnerships. As the portfolio has matured, CARB-X is increasingly involved in human clinical trials.
The role CARB-X seeks a Chief of R&D to provide scientific leadership, lead the execution of its product development strategy, and manage a high-performing virtual R&D team. This can be a fully virtual position, based in any location that will support very active collaboration with colleagues in Europe and the United States. In the coming years, CARB-X expects to make new investments of more than USD 100 million on an annual basis, making the role of the Chief of R&D globally prominent and strategic for antibacterial R&D The recommendation to support an R&D project is made by the R&D team after advice from external Advisory Boards. The final decision is made by the CARB-X Investment Committee. The Chief of R&D leads the team that identifies and translates strategic priorities into publicly announced funding calls, after approval from our board, contributing robust pre-award processes and investment recommendations, while also overseeing post-award support and portfolio transitions.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director and working in close partnership with the other members of the Executive Team, the role is expected to foster collaboration throughout the organization and across the AMR ecosystem, strengthening CARB-X's scientific influence, and ensuring product developers are positioned for successful progression into clinical and regulatory pathways and market entry.
