| The incumbent works in the Cardiology Section of Medical Service at the VA Maine Healthcare System, Togus campus, Augusta, Maine. The position is primarily located at the Portland CBOC of the VA Maine Healthcare System; the incumbent will also be required to provide cardiovascular ultrasonography services and supervision at the Togus campus, VA Maine. The incumbent will have full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the work of subordinate technicians. These duties include assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; providing echocardiography technician services in more complex cases; reviewing and making recommendations regarding new and emerging procedures; providing instruction and training to new staff; interviewing candidates for positions; recommending selections, advancements, promotions; evaluating performance; taking disciplinary action when necessary; and identifying educational or training needs. Additionally, this technician is responsible for performing echocardiography exams which range from routine to complex in all echocardiography modalities. Duties include varied administrative, and staff development functions, which may require problem solving, communication and writing skills, as well as knowledge of regulatory and industry compliance and accreditation issues. In addition, they will have knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques. They will provide training and supervision in these procedures, to evaluate and initiate performance improvement projects, and to write policies, procedures, and protocols, that pertain to Echocardiography.
