Program Overview and Goal

The PGY-2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) Residency Program at Stanford Health Care (SHC) provides foundational learning experiences to develop a pharmacy leader capable of executing positive change across a health care system. The goal of the program is to build upon PGY-1 residency training in the delivery of patient-centered care and to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence for the resident’s career goals. After completion of the PGY-2 HSPAL program, the resident will be prepared to assume clinical or operational leadership roles in a variety of settings and contribute as a leader to the pharmacy profession.

Over the course of the year, the resident will gain exposure to various areas of the health care system including but not limited to:

• pharmacy quality and regulatory compliance
• inpatient operations
• ambulatory care operations
• business operations and supply chain management
• medication safety
• human resource management
• informatics and technology
• executive leadership

Program Eligibility

Applicants interested in the PGY-2 HSPAL program must meet the following requirements:

• Attainment of Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy
• Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency program
• Eligibility for California licensure and be licensed by 10/1/2026
• Submission of application through PhORCAS by 1/2/2026
• Participation in an on-site interview
