The University of Georgia (UGA) Speech and Hearing Clinic in partnership with Georgia Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Program (Ga LEND) training program at Georgia State University (GSU) offers a dynamic, 10-12 month full-time externship experience to Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) candidates in the final year of their training programs.
This externship experience will provide a blend of clinical training at a university clinic in Athens, GA as well as participation in the Ga LEND program in Atlanta, GA which aims to prepare future leaders who will enhance the lives of children and families through culturally competent and family-centered services, coordinated systems of care, and responsive social policies. The UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic is housed within the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education in the Mary Frances Early College of Education in Athens, Georgia. The clinic provides the extern with a well-rounded clinical experience serving patients of all ages in a wide variety of diagnostic and rehabilitative services including conventional audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, screening and diagnostic ABR evaluations, diagnostic OAE testing, hearing aid consultations and fitting, and cochlear implant candidacy evaluations and mapping. The extern will receive full time supervision at the initiation of the externship experience and will work towards increasing independence. The Ga LEND program is a two semester interdisciplinary training experience to prepare future leaders to provide coordinated, culturally competent, and family-centered care to children and families. The program incorporates didactic and experiential learning in classroom, clinical, and community settings. The trainee will also receive support to attend the EHDI Annual Conference as well as local and state continuing education.
