Externs will have access to any on-campus continuing education such as manufacturer trainings, Audiology Journal Clubs, and/or on-campus conferences including the UGA Pediatric Audiology Symposium. Externs will receive financial support from LEND and UGA-approved time away to attend the EHDI Annual conference.

At the end of the externship experience, students will be able to demonstrate independent audiometry skills including pure tone testing, speech-in-quiet and speech-in-noise testing, and immitance testing. Students will be able to recommend appropriate assistive devices and independently program hearing aids using best practices (including real ear measurements). Students will be able to complete a cochlear implant evaluation and make recommendations regarding candidacy. Students will demonstrate skills, with support, in pediatric hearing assessment, diagnostic ABR, cochlear implant programming, and tinnitus evaluation.
