The Kussell Lab at NYU?s Center for Genomics and Systems Biology seeks a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Postdoctoral Associate performing experimental research at the intersection of quantitative microbiology and evolutionary dynamics. A start date in the range December 1, 2024 ? March 1, 2025 would be ideal; later start dates will be considered.
Current projects in the lab are focused on understanding how gene regulatory strategies and physiological mechanisms ? including stress responses, stochastic switches, and phenotypic memory ? evolve in bacterial populations under fluctuating conditions. We use a combination of quantitative microbiology techniques, synthetic biology, microfluidics, microscopy, and sequencing-based methods to track population structure during temporal fluctuations. We use biophysical theory and modeling to develop analytical frameworks that enable mechanistic inferences, inform experimental design, and reveal new biological functions.
In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $63,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD, have prior research experience in experimental microbiology, and have a track record of peer-reviewed publications. In particular, the candidate would ideally have prior experience in one or more of the following: bacterial physiology, experimental biophysics, synthetic biology, recombineering, microfluidics, and/or microscopy.
Please upload your application materials via Interfolio. Include the following items: 1) CV including a list of publications; 2) a short summary of your present and future research interests; 3) a list of three references and their contact information.
