Responsible for working with On-the-Job Trainers and Training Supervisor to ensure new hire training is conducted both on the line and in the classroom. Will work with new hires to on-board and orientate in job skills and Smithfield Policies. Will be responsible for walking the production floor to check on new hires and assist with training needs for new hires and job movement created through the Job Bidding Process. The Training Specialist will assist with job specific training that may include, appropriate PPE training and use, knife sharpening techniques, and other job specific knowledge required for an employee to learn their assigned position with the company. Will work with Training Supervisor to coordinate facility training needs daily and to ensure tracking documents are in place to verify training and identify those needing additional training.
Core Responsibilities
Train new and existing employees on job-specific topics and procedures conducted annually and monthly
Trains employees on the specific standard operating procedures (SOP) to accurately reflect current practices.
Assure all new employees receive necessary training to perform assigned jobs safely and according to position responsibilities. Utilize the training platform to conduct training, track, and report the training activity.
Evaluate the training approach and modify as needed.
Promotes continuous improvement and innovation of all training using M-IQ (manufacturing intelligence) tenets
Communicate with employees about their job requirements.
Provide feedback to the Production Supervisor for the progress reports to be communicated to employee.
Assist the Plant Training Supervisor with program management, reporting, scheduling, and communication,
Audit M-IQ Tier meetings.
Assist in on-boarding of new employees by leading tours and distributing and train on appropriate PPE use.
Ability to work various shifts and hours.
Ability to travel to other facilities.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2+ years of experience in manufacturing operations
Ability to perform operational positions within the facility
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Bi-Lingual in more than one language preferred
Able to work with co-workers and Management proactively and in a team environment
Shows problem solving abilities
Experience in computer programs to include Microsoft, Word, Excel, Power Point and/or other computer programs
Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May be responsible for supervision of a team of On-the-Job Trainers.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
Frequently required to sit, stand, walk; use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or crawl.
