About Our Program
Welcome to the 24-month PGY1 and PGY2 Medication-Use Safety and Policy Residency Program at AdventHealth Orlando. Come train at one of the largest hospitals in the nation! We provide patient care for many disease states utilizing pharmacists in a variety of specialties. Our second year preceptors have extensive training and experience and are leading the charge for the health system in formulary, policy, medication safety, and informatics.
This program integrates clinical practice with Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA)/Master of Business Administration (MBA) coursework and rotations to develop a foundation upon which the resident will build a career in medication-use safety and policy. The first year of this PGY1/2 program aims for the resident to develop a strong clinical foundation with various opportunities to engage in administrative experiences. The second year focuses on the medication-use safety and policy aspect of this residency. Residents provide evidence-based patient care, lead process improvement initiatives, direct clinical programs and collaborative practice teams, facilitate medical staff committees and supervise pharmacy staff. Concentrated and longitudinal experiences develop resident mastery of team leadership, medication distribution and clinical practice management, medication use policy, quality and performance improvement, hospital regulation and accreditation, medication safety, and customer satisfaction. Graduates are highly competitive for a variety of hospital and health-system leadership positions, including: medication safety, drug information, formulary management, quality and regulatory, and pharmacy leadership.
