A complete application should include the following:
Document with your contact information including your name, preferred phone number, email address, university, expected date of graduation, total number of adult clinical hours, and total number of pediatric clinical hours. Curriculum Vitae describing your clinical experience, including the name and dates of each placement, a brief description of the populations served, the percentage of pedatrics seen, and the specific audiologic skills mastered. Also include any language you write or speak fluently other than English, if applicable. Note any audiology-related special skills, abilities, or talents you would like us to know about. Briefly describe any volunteer activities related to the field of audiology that you feel are pertinent to your application. Submit a Letter of Intent in essay format to answer: How you heard about our externship program and why you are considering an externship at Texas Hearing Institute? Why do you want to be a pediatric audiologist? What do you hope to achieve during your externship? How will your externship benefit your professional development? Specific to audiology, what are you particularly passionate about? What sparks your interest? Two Letters of Reference which must come directly from your supervisor. One from your university clinic supervisor. One from an off-campus clinic supervisor. Official Transcript/Grades from Your Graduate University which must be sent directly from your school either via e-mail or mail. The student or selected extern must submit proof of a passing Praxis score prior to your anticipated externship start date of June 1, 2026. Application must be postmarked by Monday, September 8, 2025. Applications that are late or incomplete will not be considered. The student is responsible for ensuring all documents have been submitted and received. Submitted materials will not be returned.

1. Perform diagnostic hearing evaluations including tympanometry, acoustic reflexes, pure-tone and soundfield threshold measurements, as well as word recognition testing using standard and pediatric testing methods. 2. Independently perform otoacoustic emissions and Auditory Brainstem Response (click and tone bursts) testing. 3. Conduct community hearing screenings. 4. Increase knowledge of pediatric hearing aid evaluations and fittings. 5. Perform listening checks on hearings aids, cochlear implants and HAT. 6. Develop skills and knowledge in identifying pediatric candidates for cochlear implantation. 7. Assist in the cochlear implant evaluation, mapping and rehabilitation of children who receive implants. 8. Increase skills in describing audiological test results to families, patients, and other professional team members. 9. Understand and inform parents in an unbiased approach to their communication options. 10. Develop knowledge and skills in team management of children with hearing loss and their families enrolled in an auditory-verbal therapy model, a total communication approach or in our auditory-oral pre-school program. 11. Communicate effectively with school personnel and speech therapists regarding audiologic findings and their implications in the classroom.

Instruct patients and families about testing to be completed and use instrumentation according to manufacturer's specifications.
