The USC Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a full-time Histology Technician I who will be responsible for performing technical procedures and tasks supporting the day-to-day operations of the AP Histology Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In addition, he/she will provide technical expertise to ensure proper functioning of the laboratory division for optimal quality, efficiency, productivity, and turn-around-times.
Specific Job-Related Duties:
Prepares tissue sections for microscopic examination using a variety of techniques including fixation, embedding, cutting, staining tissue slides for good diagnostic quality.
Prioritizes and accurately performs all designated departmental procedures, including embedding, microtomy, staining (special stains), decalcification, coverslipping and labeling.
Operates precision equipment and works with a variety of reagents and chemicals to make tissue abnormalities visible with a microscope.
Prepares and maintains solutions required for all procedures.
Identifies, labels, and processes tissue according to specifications.
Maintains equipment, cleaning, changing solutions, taking temperatures, and replenishing supplies and solutions as needed.
Responsible for maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal regulatory agencies.
The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States.
