This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Public Health Policy Project Manager (Policy PM) designs, executes, and manages public health policy strategies and activities for large grant- or contract-funded projects. The Policy PM engages with public health professionals from the local, state and national human services sectors, as well as local, regional and statewide policymakers. The Policy PM oversees and manages public health policy support for 2 or more public health projects.
The Policy PM acts as the lead policy expert in initiatives to modernize and strengthen rules NC accreditation processes, providing strategic guidance on pertinent statutory and regulatory reforms. Additionally, this position oversees a key workstream for a governmental public health taskforce, facilitating collaboration with North Carolina stakeholders to initiate and develop comprehensive skill-building programs for the state's public health workforce. The Policy PM also facilitates the effective engagement of NCIPH and our partners in policy discussions and processes, ensuring alignment with the regulatory framework and operational guidelines applicable to state employees.
Education and Experience:
* At least 3 years prior work experience in public health, with a focus on health policy, local health department governance, accreditation or related work * Masters or other graduate degree in public health, policy, leadership or related field. * Two or more years of experience working on health policy and engaging policy makers at state and local level. * Understanding of how to strategically communicate to move public health policy change forward. * Familiarity with legislative rulemaking in the context of governmental public health. * Experience with policy skill development including policy writing, relationship building, and policy advocacy. * Experience identifying and sharing impact of policy advocacy efforts. * Familiarity with NC local health department accreditation processes. * Experience working in an academic or state agency environment. * Experience using Asana or similar project management software.
Essential Skills:
Project management experience with demonstrated ability to establish timelines, scope deliverables, provide oversight, juggle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups of people to achieve pre-identified desired outcomes.
Demonstrated understanding of skills and processes needed to advocate for health policy at organization, local, and state levels.
Prior experience identifying, advising or collaborating with internal parties and external clients.
*Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint), Zoom videoconferencing, or other similar software.
