The Environmental Specialist with Country View Family Farms is a technical role that closely supports environmental compliance across all areas of operations. In this position, you will assure that that the company complies with all local, state and federal environmental rules, regulations and permits. This role will support all areas of operations, including farms, feed Mills, company Housing and trailer wash facilities across multiple states.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and assures compliance with all local, state and federal environmental regulations and permits at all locations and facilities (Farms, Feed Mills, Company Housing and Trailer Wash)
Utilize an environmental management system to assure that all need records and self-inspections are completed and maintained all locations and facilities
Assure all required reporting is accurately and timely submitted for all local, state and federal environmental regulations and permits for all locations and facilities.
Coordinates all inspections by regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental rules, regulations and permits. Attend inspections with regulatory agencies personnel during compliance visits and when needed be very proactive and assertive in what needs to be done in our best interest. Maintain good relationships with various regulatory agencies, but do not be intimidated.
Manage permitting process for new facilities as well as expansions to move projects along in a timely manner.
Develop and revising required nutrient management plans and odor management plans for operated farms. Managing the overall timeline requirements so that the planes are submitted, reviewed and approved on time.
Obtain NPDES CAFO permits where required. Assure on farm compliance with all permits.
Supports and provides guidance for Industrial Waste Water discharges and permits at trailer washes and feed mills.
Prepares and implements functional budget for manure management, mortality management and permitting fees. Manage the manure hauling and application with manure haulers and/or brokers. Manage a positive relationship with manure importers to assure CVFF receives the most value for manure.
Assure Soil and Manure sampling to support NMP’s.
Supports company sustainability efforts.
Coordinates environmental emergency response documents preparation and upkeep.
Evaluates water supply and usage to insure quality and conservation.
Maintain contact with local, state, and federal representatives. Represent Country View Family Farms at industrial/environmental group meetings to be aware of issues, concerns, and new laws/regulations. Stay abreast of any environmental changes, and work to influence them in a positive way from a CVFF viewpoint.
Perform duties as defined by Manager
Daily and Overnight travel to farm sites and facilities required
Farm sites or meeting 1 to 2 days per week
Quarterly travel to (NC and IN)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Environmental Science or Resource Management and/or Agronomy/Soil Science and/or equivalent education and work experience. Certified in writing and preparing nutrient management plans and odor management plans is preferred. Understanding of NPDES CAFO permits and other Agricultural Environmental permits and Agricultural Environmental issues.
At least 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
You are multi-task oriented and a team player.
You have the ability to define problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
You are available to work Monday thru Friday, with some weekends and holiday work required.
