Plumbing Manufacturers International (PMI) is seeking self-motivated, entrepreneurial candidates for the position of Director of State Government Affairs, Policy and Advocacy.
You will have overall responsibility for developing proactive strategic outreach and advocacy plans and collaborating with state legislators and policymakers on legislation and regulations impacting water conservation, plumbing appliance efficiency, and PMI members. In this position, you will work with the Advocacy and Government Affairs Committee to establish proactive positions on state legislation and regulations and work to achieve results that are favorable to our members.
As a member of the PMI team, you will actively participate and build consensus with the Government Affairs and Advocacy team, PMI’s Federal and California advocates, and staff across all departments to establish both short- and long-term plans and objectives to support the Association's goals and priorities. You will be responsible for managing and building consensus across a range of water efficiency, conservation, and plumbing fixture and fittings issues with the Advocacy and Government Affairs Committee composed of manufacturing members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Manage the state government affairs tracking service/consultant to effectively track, monitor and provide analysis of all state Administrative, Legislative and regulatory actions likely to impact PMI member companies, member products. · Develop positions on bills based on member feedback and proactively work with state legislators and staff to achieve results favorable to PMI’s mission. This could include direct communications with Administration, Legislative and Regulatory officials and overseeing contract state lobbyists as needed. · Report the progress of state bills to membership during regular Advocacy/Government Affairs teleconferences. · Prepare and schedule distribution of Advocacy/Government Affairs meeting reports and State Government Affairs Alerts to PMI members as required by legislative or regulatory developments. Assist PMI’s Federal and California government relations team members as appropriate. · Develop the necessary level of knowledge of manufacturing issues plumbing products, code s and standards, and relevant regulations to best serve PMI members. · Enhance PMI’s position as a trusted resource for reliable, accurate information and materials on plumbing fixture and fittings industry best practices, manufacturing leadership, regulatory requirements, and plumbing codes and standards for members and related organizations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: You have at least 5-7 years’ experience in a variety of states or state agency roles such that you understand the legislative and regulatory processes and how best to influence change. Ideally you will have experience managing consultants or have worked with consultants. Knowledge of water efficiency and sustainability issues a plus. A bachelor’s degree required. This is a remote work position.

· Experience working with state legislators, lobbyists, consultants, and others with a high level of diplomacy and effectiveness · A willingness to learn about manufacturing industry and issues, plumbing industry, codes, standards and regulations · A highly effective and responsive communicator with a strong sense of urgency, accompanied by exceptional oral and written skills. · Must possess the ability to translate complex technical concepts in to clear, concise and understandable explanations and action plans. · A willingness to travel extensively depending on the number of issues and states involved · A high-level of self-initiative that gets the job done unsupervised. · Demonstrated ability to execute against deadlines, manage multiple projects, set priorities, and monitor and control expenditures. · Strong computer skills and working knowledge of data management systems. Ability to learn about and utilize digital communication and remote working tools. · A collaborative, resilient and flexible style. Need to be a team player.
