Supervisor of machine shop in a university setting, including experience with all shop operations and equipment, ability to quote and schedule jobs and order material, train new employees, advise and instruct students in proper design for machine operations. Expert CNC programmer and operator.
Essential Duties:
Programs and operates CNC mills and lathes.
Provides cost estimates on jobs.
Operates various shop equipment.
Conducts tours and training for organized classes, senior design and competition teams.
Plans, assigns and supervises shop operations.
Instructs the users of the shop on proper use of tools and safety regulations.
Maintains inventory, orders materials through UTA and outside vendors.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school graduation supplemented by vocational machine shop and technical courses such as mathematics, physics, or blueprint reading.
Ten years of combined experience:
As a journeyman machinist or instrument maker, expert experience in programming and operating CNC mills, experience maintaining all machines and equipment in the shop, experience supervising shop operations and personnel.
Requires familiarity with SolidWorks and MasterCam.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five (5) years of supervisory experience.
Expert machinist with ten years of experience programming and operating CNC lathe and CNC milling machines.
Experience in providing advice to students from senior design classes and students on competition teams such as FSAE, Aircraft Design, Rockets, Rover, and Ground Vehicles.
Experience working with students and faculty to enhance designs to make manufacturing easier.
Familiar with micrometers, sine bar and other precision measuring devices.
Capable of maintaining mills and lathes.
Capable of operating and maintaining various drill presses, saws, grinder, sanders, sand blaster, shear and other related equipment.
Familiarity with all manual lathes, mills, saws, grinders, welders, and general shop equipment and tools.
Fluent with all measurement tools.
