This position will be hired at level 2 or 3 depending on the experience of the selected candidate. The salary range for the level 2 is hourly and the level 3 is salary. Placement within the range is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).

DESCRIPTION
This position will be dedicated to the reduction of workplace-related injuries within UC San Diego Health. The ideal applicant will apply professional knowledge and expertise within EH&S-Injury Prevention.
This EHS 3 - Ergonomist professional develops, recommends, and implements programs, policies, and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards across services and disciplines throughout all UC San Diego Health locations. As part of the Injury and Illness Prevention team, core job duties will include:
The core program is Healthcare Ergonomics, however, as part of the Injury Prevention team, will participate in support of other programs that include safe patient handling, occupational safety, accommodations, and general safety as needed.
Provide ergonomic guidance and support for the selection of ergonomic equipment and accessories for workstations and clinical setting use.
Assessing and evaluating the work environment for musculoskeletal and repetitive motion risks and hazards.
Identifying ergonomic controls needed to support a safer and more efficient workplace.
Follow-up on injury reports, and identify opportunities for prevention.
Developing and administering engaging safety training and education materials across alldisciplines and UC San Diego Health locations.
Participating in project planning and recommendations.
Participating in workgroups and committees to foster collaboration with other disciplines including occupational health, human resources, worker's compensation, facilities, and project planning and development.
Captures and report metrics for analytical purposes and identify opportunities for improvement within the program.
Uses a variety of methods, techniques, and evaluation for obtaining goals and objectives.
Generates comprehensive reports for identified hazards, method for analysis, data interpretation, corrective action, and evaluation for success or further need for improvements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Ergonomics, Occupational Health, Kinesiology, Public Health, Allied Health, Healthcare, and Occupational Health and Safety programs or comparable field and two (2) years of related experience, education/training working within healthcare, laboratory, and/or industrial setting.
Regulatory Knowledge of Cal/OSHA Title 8 and ANSI standards.
Cal/OSHA 30-Hour Cert – General Industry or will obtain.
Successful completion of Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) within six months of hire.
Competency in using measurement, sampling tools, and safety equipment/devices.
Demonstrated knowledge of workplace safety principles and injury prevention strategies.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to manage, deliver, and implement an effective safety program.
Ability to effectively provide presentations to different audiences/groups.
Ability to generate, collate, and report data related to program evaluation.
Ability to conduct a hazard assessment, incident follow-up, and generate an incident/evaluation report with an appropriate plan of action.
Ability to troubleshoot problems with recommendations for solutions and improvements.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CPE, CEAS, AOEAS CHSP, COSS.
Knowledge or proficiency using an ergonomic assessment software (e.g. Ergosuite)
Healthcare background.
Cal/OSHA knowledge.
TJC knowledge.
