POSITION: Government Affairs Analyst (Full Time Position)

WAGE: Commensurate with experience and ability within association benchmark salary ranges

DESCRIPTION: NADP seeks a self-starter government relations professional to assist in execution of NADP's government relations (GR) strategy with a specific focus on federal legislative and regulatory activity who will report to the Director of Government Relations. This position is part of a team effort focusing on implementation of health reform legislation and other governmental actions impacting the dental benefits industry. The positions responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Legislative and regulatory tracking, review, and analysis
• Drafting comments/testimony to legislators/regulators; working with outside consultants/lobbyists to advance NADP positions.
• Assisting with answering ad-hoc questions about state and federal issues, provide analysis on legislation and regulations as-requested
• Assisting with the planning and implementation of legislative fly-ins or fundraising events, which could include scheduling appointments, promoting events, and producing handouts and packets 
• Collaborating with other industry organizations to advance industry positions
• Assisting with preparing information for the industry at related organizations’ conferences
• Assisting with drafting white papers on various topics of concern and correspondence to legislators and regulators 
• Preparing reports and postings of materials related to NADP GR priorities,
• Developing internal news articles related to GR activities,
• Supporting NADP volunteer groups engaged in GR activities,
• Tracking health news and related reports of agencies, legislatures, associations, and other organizations impacting GR priorities, and
• Willingness to travel (potential for 10+ days of overnight travel per year)

 REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 to 3 years of related work experience (NOTE: Advanced degree in government relations or public affairs may substitute for 1-2 years of experience.) with the following capabilities:

• Experience using searchable bill tracking databases to monitor and report on legislative developments.   
• Advanced ability to research and analyze policy and communicate findings in a variety of formats to a number of audiences and respond to rapid developments.

• Understanding of political process and political advocacy techniques. 

• Strong project management, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and organization skills. 

• Accomplished verbal, presentation and writing skills: excellent communicator to a variety of audiences, including senior leaders.  

• Strong computer skills including use of the internet and social media as well as Microsoft office products (Word and Excel).  

• Background in legislative research or health policy analysis preferred.
