The Martha E. Jones Pediatric Audiology Center at CID is accepting applications for a 4th year audiology extern for the 2025-2026 year. The application deadline is September 18, 2024. CID's pediatric audiology program operates as a hybrid clinic - offering audiologic services for children ages 0-18 in an outpatient model, in combination with providing a range of educational audiology services. The audiology program provides a full range of re/habilitative audiologic services including behavioral hearing evaluations, hearing aid evaluation, fitting, and troubleshooting services, cochlear implant programming, troubleshooting and management, bone conduction hearing aid evaluation, fitting and troubleshooting, DM/HAT management, parent counseling and educational outreach. Audiologists work closely with families and Teachers of the Deaf in the parent-infant and school programs to address the speech, language, and hearing needs of the children served. Opportunities for regular interprofessional collaboration include on-site SLP, OT, behavioral specialist, and family support specialist.
The extern willparticipate in all aspects of the audiology clinic, including participation in CID's new, state-of-the-art 3D Print Lab. 3D print technology has enabled on-site manufacturing of custom earmolds, allowing for faster fitting after diagnosis and improved earmold retention/device fitting. The extern will be involved in all aspects of earmold manufacturing, including design, post-print production, and logistics.
The pediatric audiology program is part of CID's school program, which has a long history of providing educational services to children who are deaf or hard of hearing using a listening and spoken language approach. Please visit the link below to access a virtual tour of CID.

Central Institute for the Deaf's audiology department operates as a hybrid clinic serving patients in an outpatient model, in addition to serving in the educational audiology role. CID's mission is to teach children who are deaf and hard of hearing to listen, talk, read and succeed. Our audiologists serve children birth through 18 and their families, including services through Illinois and Missouri Early Intervention programs, as well as on-site clinical and educational audiology services for students in the academic programs. CID serves as the educational audiologists for surrounding districts on a contract basis and serves its graduates through the age of 18.
