We are seeking a Joint Commission Environment of Care Specialist. The Joint Commission Environment of Care Specialist will ensure and maintain compliance with the Environment of Care (EC) standards for continued accreditation by The Joint Commission (TJC) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medicine hospitals, off-site ambulatory service centers, clinics, and laboratories.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain proficiency in TJC EC standards and CAP standards.
Ensure that all the requirements of the EC are performed in the timeliness required for continued accreditation.
Maintain records of all activities regarding the EC and lab inspections.
Provide inspection reports in a timely manner to the managers of the areas surveyed.
Schedule all activities related to EC and laboratory compliance.
Conduct routine surveys of all areas covered by TJC and CAP regulations.
Prepare quarterly reports of activities related to compliance activities for the Joint Committee for Health Safety and Environment (JCHSE).
As required, provide escort for any TJC, CAP, or other regulatory or governmental inspector.
As required, assist in other HSE activities for both the Hospital and University.
Other activities as required by the Director of Occupational and Environmental Safety, Joint Commission Environment of Care Manager, or Executive Director of Health, Safety, and Environment.
Must have strong inter-personal skills and be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to a broad cross-section of employees.
Responsible For The Following Tasks At The Howard County General Hospital
Review incidents sent from IVOS for review and report to EOC committee as necessary.
Review IVOS incidents to ensure OSHA recordable incidents are logged in correctly.
Maintain incident spreadsheet.
Conduct accident investigations and follow up.
Produce safety quarterly reports.
Participate in Safe Lifting Committee.
Serve as backup for Environmental Monitoring Rounds.
Perform equipment clearance as needed.
Respond to odor calls.
Perform Job Hazard Analysis, Indoor Air Quality testing, Exposure Monitoring.
Conduct DOT training as needed.
Conduct Ergonomic Surveys.
Conduct CAP Inspections.
Provide reports for all services listed above.
Responsible For The Following Tasks At Sibley Hospital
Review incidents that are sent from IVOS for review.
Review of incidents in IVOS to ensure OSHA recordable incidents are logged in correctly.
Maintain the Incident spread sheet.
Conduct accident investigations and follow up when needed.
Produce quarterly safety report.
Respond to odor calls as needed.
Perform Job Hazards Analysis, Indoor Air Quality testing, Exposure Monitoring.
Conduct Ergonomic Surveys.
Conduct CAP Inspections.
Provide reports for all services listed above.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health, Environmental Health, Health Care, or related Degree.
Five years experience in a health care or laboratory setting providing services related to environment of care, occupational health and safety, or life safety.
Experience in conducting safety compliance surveys in a healthcare or laboratory setting.
Knowledge of NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code, especially as pertains to healthcare occupancies), NFPA 45 (Fire Protection for Laboratories), or NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code.
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office, able to develop and present using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
Able to pass the medical evaluation to wear respiratory protection.
Able to wear a respirator, if required, while performing assigned duties.
Able to lift a weight in agreement with the Johns Hopkins Lifting Guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in TJC or CAP accreditation surveys preferred.
Prior experience and familiarity with V Survey and iPads a plus.
