The Immigration Specialist supports the immigration function within the Human Resources department. The Immigration Specialist is responsible for advising employees, processing applications and paperwork, and maintaining regulatory compliance. This position reports to the Immigration Program Manager. This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
Assist in determining appropriate non-immigrant visa types for foreign nationals appointed/hired by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch).
Manage pre-offer immigration assessments, case initiations, and escalations.
Prepare and act as authorized signatory for in-house visa petitions for new hires, transfers, extensions, and change of status applications.
Prepare and advise employees for consular visits and visa stamp processing.
Build effective relationships and collaboration with Talent Acquisition & HR Business Partner teams.
Work directly with employees to analyze complex immigration matters, advise on potential risks and challenges, and resolve issues by facilitating stakeholder discussions that balance business and employee needs.
Maintain regulatory compliance with all immigration government agencies including the US Citizenship & Immigration Service, Department of State, Customs and Border Patrol and Department of Labor.
Liaise with outside counsel to interpret and apply immigration policies and procedures in a timely manner when appropriate.
Prepare I-9's for visa holders, digitize and archive files, monthly reporting, check requests.
BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of US employment-based immigration with minimum 6 months experience preparing visa petitions preferred.
Excellent communication, customer service and problem solving skills.
Possess high ethical standards.
Advanced skills in MS suite, including Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint. Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) experience preferred in order to update Immigration website.
Ability to plan, problem solve, execute, and multi-task with flexibility.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Strong multi-tasking skills while continuing to provide a high level of customer service.
In addition to job duties at Fred Hutch, this position also requires access to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, which requires COVID-19 vaccination without exceptions.Accordingly, as a condition of employment for this Fred Hutch position, newly hired employees must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.
