Junior Specialist (Quon Lab 2022)
The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for 1-2 Junior Specialist positions in computational genomics.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Research (90%)
This position will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on identifying regulatory DNA sequences associated with localization of gene expression to specific subtypes of neurons in mammals. The candidate will use deep learning techniques to characterize the architecture of enhancers identified by different epigenetic marks, identify systematic differences in enhancer structure of different neuron types, and identify DNA sequences that drive expression of reporters in specific cell types. They will implement, train, optimize and validate different neuron network architectures, including CNNs and Transformers. The candidate will then work with collaborators to design massively parallel reporter assays (in vitro, in vivo) to test the role of different DNA sequences in driving enhancer activity and localization of expression. The position also requires acquiring, preprocessing and integrating private and public DNA, RNA and epigenomic datasets to support these analyses. Finally, the candidate will summarize data, generate figures, present their research in regular group meetings, and assist in preparing manuscripts for publication.

The junior specialist will be expected to help train and mentor undergraduates, graduate students, and other lab members.
SALARY RANGE: Step I - $49,000 [100% annual] or Step II - $52,200 [100%
annual]), commensurate with qualifications and experience.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Short term, maximum two-year appointment based on the needs of the research project. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
