Stanford University, Department of Urology Pediatrics Clinic is seeking a Social Science Research Professional 2 (hybrid opportunity, 1-year fixed term) to perform complex functions and activities related to 2 clinical research investigators: 70% Dr. Kathleen Kan and 30% Dr. Daniel Han.

With Dr. Kan, projects will include 1) quantitative analysis of clinical and claims databases and 2) retrospective and prospective clinical studies related to pediatric bladder health and kidney stone disease.

SSRP2 will lead study design development, execution and analysis as it relates to 1) cost analysis of pediatric bladder health in the United States and 2) the SoFab study and Happy Healthy Bladder study, both studies that aim to better understand a behavioral change framework for pediatric bladder health stakeholders and are currently enrolling participants.

SSRP2 will work closely with the PI in the 1) analysis of clinical and claims databases 2) supervision and execution of current prospective clinical studies 3) development of new clinical studies and 4) supervision of weekly lab meeting and student trainees related to the above projects.

Ultimately, our team's goal is to development a tool that can be applied nationally in school and pediatricians' offices to help with early treatment of bladder problems in children, decreasing severity and duration of illness.

With Dr. Han, projects will be studying the use of innovative imaging modalities for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of pediatric urologic conditions. SSRP2 will work closely with the PI in supervision and execution of clinical studies, development of new clinical studies, supervision of student trainees related to Dr Han's projects.

The incumbent will design the experiments, oversee regulatory process for data access, propose modifications and independently seek interdisciplinary advice during this process.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Assist in designing experiments, exercising independent initiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high-level assignments, including activities such as defining variables, formulating hypotheses, and selecting subjects, sources of information, or planned and coordinating experimental protocols.
  • Assist in designing and executing clinical and claims database projects.
  • Supervision of current prospective clinical studies in Dr. Kan's lab.
• Adapt or work out the details of new, nonstandard procedures, with the supervisor providing general guidance and suggestions.
  • Speak to patients and obtained informed consent for studies assessing the use of imaging modalities for pediatric urologic conditions.
• Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques.
• Solve problems, and make decisions that affect the direction of the research and result in independent contributions to the overall project.
• Select and apply standard calculations and formulas independently to compile data or process documents; often serve as a resource for research methods and numerical analyses.
• Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed.
• Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.
• Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight and instruction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience in quantitative analysis of clinical and healthcare claims databases related to cost analysis and disparities in care.
• Knowledge and prior experience with the principles of clinical research design.
• Familiarity with IRB guidelines and regulations.
• Familiarity with data analysis (Dr. Han).
• Prior experience producing an academic manuscript for publication a plus.
• Prior experience writing academic grants for funding opportunities a plus.
• Interest in participating in pediatric research that has future advocacy implications.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field and two years applicable experience, or combination of education and experience in an applicable social science.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (DESIRED):

Prior experience in educational research design and curriculum development will be prioritized. Master's degree or higher in education, epidemiology, health policy, public health, statistics, computer science, bio-informatics a plus.

• Prior experience in quantitative analysis of clinical and healthcare claims databases related to cost analysis and disparities in care.
• Prior psychometric survey development and/or qualitative methods a plus.
• Fluency in Spanish a plus.
• Proficiency with statistical software, i.e., R, SPSS.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of medical terminology a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

• Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
• Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.
• Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
• Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
• Position may require repetitive motion.
