Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit, unified adult cancer care and research center that is clinically integrated with UW Medicine, a world leader in clinical care, research and learning. The Sr. Radiation Safety Technician provides ionizing radiation safety services to Center researchers using radioactive materials and radiation producing machines. Reports to the Radiation Safety Officer and works independently in performing daily responsibilities according to established policies and procedures, referring non-routine radiation safety issues to supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Assign personal dosimetry devices to Center researchers working with radioactive materials.
• Assist in maintaining personnel dosimetry records and provide dosimetry information to researchers and supervisor as required or requested.
• Perform routine dosimetry monitoring, ensuring exposures in public areas remain below regulatory limits.
• Perform routine contamination surveys in laboratories utilizing radioactive materials and report results to researchers and supervisor.
• Work with laboratories in a customer service oriented role for all radiation safety related matters.
• Maintain Center-wide radioactive materials audit program documentation.
• Calibrate portable survey instruments used in monitoring laboratories for radioactive contamination.
• Produce quarterly and annual ALARA reports and graphs for Radiation Safety Committee.
• Perform routine audits of laboratories and equipment within the scope of the radiation safety program.
• Investigate abnormal occurrences, allegations or survey results at the request of the radiation safety officer.
• Perform radioactive material shipments
• Provide emergency response for radioactive spills.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in chemistry, biology, or closely related scientific field.
• Minimum of three years related radiation safety experience.
• Additional related training or experience may substitute for educational requirement.
