The Ancillary Testing Coordinator (ATC) assists the Laboratory Manager in oversight of the ancillary testing program for the Bedford VA Healthcare System. Duties include but are not limited to: The ATC, in conjunction with the Laboratory Manager oversees the ancillary testing program for Bedford VA Healthcare System. The incumbent is assigned workload by the Laboratory Manager and is responsible for completion of assigned workload in a timely manner. Recommends, develops, writes and implements policies and procedures for the procurement and service requirements for ancillary or point-of-care testing equipment and instrumentation. Trains, evaluates and documents the competency of a variety of individuals in the performance of ancillary testing procedures and in the reporting of test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently. Serves as a recognized technical expert to provide authoritative laboratory advice and ancillary testing program consultation in areas of quality control/assurance, records control, proficiency testing, inspection, and accreditation to all levels of the organization. Evaluates ancillary testing activities to assess ongoing day-to-day compliance with established protocols and guidelines. Identifies, defines, and resolves issues associated with complex aspects of the data and ensures the integrity of data in relation to the test systems. Consults with all levels of management within clinical services to identify ancillary testing needs and to analyze emerging trends and technology and adopts appropriate methods. Develops technical bulletins, procedures, training materials and other program materials, to ensure accreditation and compliance with all regulatory agencies concerning patient testing, result reporting, and proficiency testing. Manages ancillary testing inventory and orders supplies as needed. Submits an annual budget and forecast to Laboratory Manager. Submits a monthly report on ancillary testing activities to Laboratory Medical Director and Laboratory Manager. Develops, recommends and writes new policies and procedures regarding the installation and use of the laboratory information system (LIS) or the hospital information system (HIS). Implements and maintains coding and mapping for laboratory test ordering, reporting, billing, and workload recording systems. Analyzes emerging trends, software, and technology and adopts appropriate methods for local programs to meet agency goals. Serves as a recognized expert to provide authoritative advice and consultation on the information system. Serves as the local expert for national software developers for alpha or beta testing of software packages. Ensures that instrument interfaces are maintained and troubleshoots as necessary. Trains P&LMS staff on computer usage and software programs. Designs and maintains databases used for data gathering for department and interdepartmental use. Maintains a laboratory performance improvement program and ensures monitoring of components and customer feedback. Identifies, defines, and resolves issues associated with complex aspects of the collected data. Provides authoritative representation and interaction with management officials, test reagent and instrumentation manufacturers, and with organizations involved in inter-laboratory quality assurance and proficiency testing.
