The Primary Purpose of the Position is: Supervises a smaller, less complex laboratory with no GS-11 positions subordinate to the supervisor at the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service, VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center (SRVMC) in Bonham. Duties include but are not limited to: Performs the full range of supervisory duties. Recommends appointment, awards, advancement, disciplinary actions; plans and assigns work; gives advice and counsel; evaluates work of subordinates; and identifies continuing education and training needs. Assures compliance with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements. Is responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of performance. Establishes and monitors the quality of pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical processes as part of the overall laboratory quality management program. Assures corrective action is initiated when test performance deviates from established performance specifications. Assures orientation, training, and competency assessment of staff. Develops policies and procedures, manages document control, develops performance standards, position descriptions, and functional statements. Responsible for professional and administrative management of assigned area/s, to include budg.et execution, supplies, and other resources.
