The HIM Tech Senior is responsible for reviewing each discharged patientâ€™s medical record for incomplete or missing documents according to hospital policy and Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and assigning deficiencies to the responsible provider(s) for completion. The HIM Tech Senior will be responsible for suspension notifications, preparation and distribution of the suspension list, and prompt notification when a provider has been removed from the suspension list. The HIM Tech SENIOR will prepare and submit birth certificates and Acknowledgment of Paternity affidavits according to State regulations. The HIM Tech SENIOR maintains the integrity of the Master Patient Index (MPI) by making demographic corrections, identifying and merging duplicate medical record numbers, and reporting overlays. The HIM Tech SENIOR is required to provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers, demonstrate a positive attitude, and promote teamwork by offering assistance to others.
A.Education/Skills â€¢High school diploma or equivalent; Associate Degree preferred with emphasis in health related field. â€¢Demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of HIM Tech position. â€¢Exhibit knowledge and compliance of regulatory requirements in Health Information Management. â€¢Excellent communication and organizational skills. â€¢Demonstrates excellent customer service skills. â€¢Ability to apply principles of process improvement. â€¢Willingness and recognized ability to develop mentor and train other associates. â€¢Must be able to follow detailed instructions and perform repetitious tasks. â€¢Thirty (30) to thirty-five (35) wpm net typing speed required. â€¢Computer/basic keyboard skills, telephone skills, and general knowledge of office machines including printers, fax, copier, and scanner. â€¢Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook Email applications. â€¢Skilled in interpreting and analyzing data. â€¢Ability to read, comprehend and retain information. â€¢Demonstrated contribution and achievement of overall goals set by Director. â€¢Perform mathematical and calculations proficiently. â€¢Knowledge of basic medical terminology required. â€¢The ability to understand departmental and hospital policies and procedures. â€¢The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in written, auditory or visual fashion is essential. â€¢The methods used to express or exchange ideas are by spoken or written word. B.Experience â€¢Two (2) yearsâ€™ experience in hospital Health Information Management Department or a comparable position required.Â
C.Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications â€¢Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) certification preferred. Certification with the Texas Office of the Attorney General on Voluntary Paternity Procedures within the first ninety (90) days of employment and annually thereafter preferred.Â
