Medical Supply Technicians provide sterilization activities, preparation, supply items and reusable medical equipment decontamination and distribution support to the medical center. If you are not a current, permanent employee of the Lexington VAMC, you should apply to announcement CBTG-11664-11161641-21-RF Duties include: -Collection, receipt, inspection and decontamination processing of soiled supplies, instruments, equipment, and medical apparatus. -Disassembles the RME and determines the correct cleaning method, such as but not limited to ultrasonic cleaners, mechanical washers, cart washers and chemical cleaning/decontamination agents as determined by manufactures instructions. -Inspects, prepares, assembles, and determines the correct method and packaging for sterilization such as but not limited to steam, Sterrad, Steris and high-level disinfecting reprocessor; may prepare operating room case carts daily utilizing surgery schedule. -Removes soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids and other contaminants by wiping, soaking, rinsing and scrubbing. -Operates decontamination equipment such as washer decontaminators, sonic washers, irrigators, laparoscopic insulation tester, automatic cart wash and tube dryers. -Validates all cleaning of instrumentation and RME in service by following manufacture guidelines, SOP's, Quick references, OneSource, and sterilization standards. -Accomplishes the inspection, assembly, packaging, and terminal sterilization of all trays, sets, and packs for use throughout the medical center.
