HMC Central Processing Unit, Implant Room, has an outstanding opportunity to hire a full time day/evening shift (includes weekends) IMPLANT ROOM SURGICAL SERVICES INVENTORY TECHNICIAN 2 / HOSPITAL CENTRAL SERVICES TECHNICIAN 2. This individual will be responsible for the decontamination, processing, sterilization, and assembly of complex surgical instrument arrangements.
Under general supervision of the Business Manager, the Surgical Services Inventory Control Technician 2 provides job duties related to the provision of surgical supplies and/or implantable devices for the Operating Room. The position entails the daily use of a materials management system (HEMM), tissue tracking software, product recalls application (RASMAS), HSM, surgical whiteboard, MS Word, MS Excel, and various network share drives. Inventory control duties include, reporting, analysis, ordering, cycle counting, processing vendor returns and determining accurate par levels for OR Stores and/or Implant Room. The job also requires a high degree of knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation and sterile processing technique as the Surgical Services Inventory Control Technician 2 assembles, wraps and containerizes instrument sets as well as fills sets with instruments and implants. This position requires teamwork, process improvement, fiscal responsibility and customer service skills. It is also necessary to be extremely detail oriented in order to be successful in this job. Included in the Surgical Services Inventory Control Technician 2 duties is constant interaction with all levels of staff including CPU, Leads, Supervisors, RN3s, Clinic PCCs, Surgeons and Management.
Standards of Performance 1.Orders, receives, and distributes OR supplies including stock, non-stock, and consignment products. 2.Identifies and implements process improvements that increase efficiencies and cost savings. 3.Ensures that HEMM on hand stock quantities are aligned with physical locations by managing the usage log and doing regular cycle counts. 4.Cycle counts inventory on a consistent basis, checking for expired product and packaging integrity. Ensures that expired or damaged product is labeled, quarantined, and removed immediately. 5.Reviews OR schedule for required items, ensures items are ordered, received, available and prepared for cases. Checks all supplies for expiration dates before hand-off to OR. 6.Troubleshoots problems with the availability of all surgical supplies and implants. 7.As part of the sterilization process assembles, wraps, or containerizes instrument sets. 8.Fills sets with implants. 9.Performs immediate use steam sterilization on an as needed basis. 10.Loads and unloads instruments in cart washer if needed. 11.Maintains safety, cleanliness and order in implant room and supply/storage rooms. Ensures that expired or obsolete product is processed and removed immediately. 12.Cleans and maintains equipment, including retrieval of implants sets from Central Processing and refill as needed. 13.Tracks the lending and return of supplies and implants to other departments and medical centers. Borrows supplies and implants from other medical centers as needed for patient care. 14.Ensures that appropriate par levels are set. Recommends increasing / decreasing par levels and/or deletion of items based on usage data. 15.Re-shelves unused products returned from the operating room and adjust inventory in HEMM. 16.Returns all damaged/expired goods, mis-shipments, and overstock to the vendor and is mindful of restocking and shipping fees. 17.Manages tissue in multiple freezers using FIFO methodology and carefully checks for expired tissue while maintaining appropriate temperature of freezer. 18.Tracks all incoming, used and expired tissue in tissue tracking system. Maintains strict compliance with FDA and TJC guidelines pertaining to implants including package integrity, temperature monitoring, and immediate transfer to freezer or refrigerator. 19.Reviews implant record ensuring the accuracy of inventory, purchase orders and billing. Assists the billing department to resolve discrepancies in documentation. 20.Assists Business Manager with product recalls. 21.Provides technical support and assistance to operating room staff within a sterile environment regarding the assembly and operation of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies. 22.Checks receiving room per protocol. Knows locations and is able to stock implants and supplies in their designated locations. 23.Assists with the development of education and training materials through both written documentation and verbal communication. 24.Reports previous shift activities and remaining tasks to oncoming shift. 25.Follows established protocol for admitting sales reps and other visitors into the OR and all OR inventory areas. 26.Participates in the development/testing/implementation of new supply/equipment systems for the unit or department. 27.Assists OR, Supply Chain, and CPU staff in special projects. 28.Performs other duties as assigned.
