Bachelor's degree in related field. Three years of experience in IT accessibility, accessibility application consulting, auditing, or development. Previous experience with automated testing of websites and software for accessibility compliance. Previous exposure to accessibility compliance monitoring and auditing of Electronic Information Resources (EIR). A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Provides institutional leadership, guidance, and oversight of Electronic Information Resources (EIR) accessibility to faculty, staff, and vendors at Sam Houston State University.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Provides leadership, guidance, and acts as a liaison to all campus community areas where Electronic Information Resources (EIR) is developed, procured, or implemented. Educates the University on accessibility requirements, monitors for federal and state compliance, identifies tools and resources that can help facilitate EIR compliance, and collaborates on ideas for future strategic opportunities. Maintains accessibility compliance responsibility for all existing institutional (EIR) software and hardware and oversight over the EIR acquisition process. Coordinates with Disability Services and General Counsel as related to accessibility. Attends meetings representing IT on issues of electronic accessibility. Remains current on regulatory guidelines and best practices in electronic accessibility. Recommends and advises on EIR accessibility criteria for integration into the development of processes, procedures, and resource requirements. Identifies University-supported standards and recommends tools for developing and testing EIR. Develops and maintains policies, procedures, guidelines, and tools that meet the requirements of all current and applicable sections of the Texas Administrative Code and Texas Government Code relevant to electronic accessibility. Consults with IT Business Operations and Procurement staff to ensure accessibility requirements are incorporated into EIR procurement processes (SOWs, specifications, receiving, etc.) to include requisitions, contracts, and purchase orders. Plans, monitors, and coordinates EIR accessibility activities founded on a risk-based approach. Develops EIR accessibility strategies and implementation plans. Works with campus community to develop compliance plans. Utilizes appropriate resources to scan and report on institutional EIR compliance. Works with website owners to improve compliance. Develops and oversees implementation of EIR accessibility program to maintain continual compliance with federal and state laws. Monitors and audits programs as needed to maintain compliance with institutional policies, and federal and state laws. Develops and implements administrative controls and strategies to provide effective oversight of EIR programs. Develops reports, studies, research projects, etc., as needed to administer campus EIR. Responsible for all aspects of institutional and state EIR reporting requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned.
