Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director of Information Technology for the School of Ars and Sciences (SAS)- Dean’s Office. Reporting to the Executive Director of Information Technology in the SAS , responsible for the management of the Information Technology Office covering the Division of Life Sciences (DLS, the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology). Serves as Chief Compliance Officer in SAS IT. The position is responsible for serving a diverse set of needs, including but not limited to scientific research, undergraduate and graduate education, and business operations. Includes responsibility for budgeting, supervision of employees and participation in the leadership of the SAS IT office.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Directs and manages all information technology operations for the Division of Life Sciences, Chemistry Department and other assigned areas.
Maintains a well-integrated functional team with the necessary technical and interpersonal skills required to provide service the user community.
Responsible for assisting the in the formulation of and compliance with the established IT budget.
Responsible for the management of all IT infrastructure including but not limited to physical networks, networking equipment, servers and application services.
Maintains high reliability services in support of multiple scientific projects, instructional and administrative operations across a diverse set of platforms.
Ability to work closely with the user community to ensure successful planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating of IT assets to meet mission goals.
Responsible for drafting relevant IT policies and, after approval by the requisite authorizes, ensuring their implementation.
Properly documents and maintains necessary procedures and technical information.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
A minimum of eight (8) years experience in the management of a diverse IT organization, including the supervision of employees and hands on technical work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with virtualization software such as VMWare or HyperV is required.
Strong working knowledge of both the Windows and Linux server operating systems including common services such as those used for web hosting and database management.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Experience managing a large and complex scientific research enterprise including the ability to understand and ensure compliance with regulatory, policy and other requirements.
Knowledge of FERPA, Federal and State grant processes.
Experience writing complex script or programming.
Experience with high capacity storage system and high speed networking.
Windows and Linux server operating systems.
Networking hardware. Data storage systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Occasional travel to the New Brunswick area campus and possible infrequent travel to other locations.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
