This will be a dual role consisting of job duties from both Commissioning Specialist and Service Technician.
The Commissioning Specialist is responsible for onsite commissioning of audio, video, and lighting systems during the final phase of project installation. A Commissioning Specialist is tasked with working with Project Managers, Programmers and Designers to provide a complete and fully functional AVL system to finalize installation. The Commissioning Specialist has the responsibility to oversee the commissioning of AVL systems during the staging phase in the prefab facility and onsite after installation of the systems. The Commissioning Specialist works in conjunction with the Prefabrication Department with setup and programming of AVL equipment prior to installation. Travel is required.
The Service Technician will service and repair integrated audio, video, and lighting systems in commercial venues, houses of worship, governmental buildings and businesses throughout the country while working as a productive team member to meet scheduled deadlines. The Service Technician will also be responsible for providing phone service support to clients as required.
Essential Job Duties for Commissioning Specialist:
Work in conjunction with Prefabrication and assist in the setup of user interface devices (AVL Control consoles, Graphical User Interfaces, etc.) prior to final installation onsite.
Ensure onsite commissioning is completed within established time constraints.
Coordinate with Project Manager, Programmer and Designer on all project specific needs for systems commissioning.
Coordinate with Project Manager to confirm Systems Commissioning Schedule and dates/times.
Verify the final fabrication of all equipment racks meet design specifications.
Verify the configuration of all audio, video, lighting, and control devices, including but not limited to, firmware of components, finalized DSP, audio console, and control system files, assignment of DMX addresses for lighting fixtures.
Store all finalized files pertinent to the project in the associated project file on our company network (i.e. DSP, control system, video configuration, and console files) and update the onsite USB key with all final files and current versions of programming software.
Possess the ability to troubleshoot complex AVL systems and resolve issues.
Communicate with Design and Programming teams to verify control system functionality.
Coordinate with Designers, Project Managers, Technicians in the field regarding questions about technical and operational aspects of the project.
Possess the ability to solder and terminate and test all types of A/V connection points.
Configure and verify IP addressing of all network connected AVL and control system devices.
Document any changes made to the IP scheme of AVL equipment and system interfaces during commissioning.
Perform verification of equipment lists from the project proposal to confirm that onsite gear inventory and prints are in congruence.
Verify completion and accuracy of staging quality control checklists.
Verify onsite rack testing with hardware and software.
Escalate any issues found in design and drawings to Project Manager and Designer for resolution.
Verify all devices are labelled to correspond with project documentation.
Perform customer training on all installed systems.
Attend first system usage by customer to provide operational and technical support.
Must be able to travel and work on Saturdays and Sundays.
Execute additional tasks as requested by the Technical Operations Manager.
Essential Job Duties for Service Technician:
Analyze and troubleshoot issues associated with AVL systems in the commercial arena – emphasis on house of worship, corporate, education and government environments
Think and work independently
Pull and terminate wire and cables, use proper, safe installation techniques of all AVL equipment
Understand and adhere to AVL best practices
Plan, organize and implement job duties to successfully complete service calls by a specific deadline
Communicate any unusual issues or problems to the Lead Service Tech or Director
Exhibit a high level of professionalism, knowledge and courtesy when working with clients
Operate a wide variety of test equipment including, but not limited to:
Audio/Video/Lighting System Analyzers
Operate and troubleshoot on a wide variety of AV technology and equipment, like:
Projection systems / display devices
Crestron / AMX control systems
Switching / routing / interfacing technology
Video conferencing & Audio-conferencing technologies
Optimize AVL systems for peak performance
Provide training to customers on AVL system functionality and operation
Read and understand architectural, electrical, structural & AVL systems drawings
Continually increase job knowledge and stay current with new developments and trends in the AVL industry
Assist coworkers when called upon
Responsible for keeping track of personal timecard which includes clocking in and out of the correct job assignment and verifying timesheet prior to payroll processing
Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record and ability to pass background checks and drug tests for project security clearance at all time
Drive our commercial vehicles which requires a DOT medical certificate
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive Knowledge of installation techniques as laid out in the Infocomm Installation Handbook and All Pro Sound training program.
The ability to operate system optimization software. (SMAART, SYSTune, etc.)
The ability to program audio DSP units from multiple manufacturers.
The ability to program and operate audio, video, lighting and control systems.
The ability to load control system software and GUI files (Crestron, Extron, etc.)
Possess advanced IP network skills.
Excellent troubleshooting skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Infocomm CTS Certification (or the ability to obtain CTS Certification within 90 days of assignment). CTS-I Preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well-organized.
Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work with diverse groups and manage staff members effectively.
Proficiency in the use of personal computers including such programs as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Project.
Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of a project by a specific due date.
Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation.
Valid and current driver’s license
Basic to intermediate knowledge of low voltage electronics
Experience with various techniques used in pulling and terminating wire and cable
Ability to work day, evening or weekend shifts
Considerable analytical and problem-solving/troubleshooting skills
The ability to travel by vehicle or airplane for out-of-town service calls
DOT medical certificate
The ability to read and interpret blueprints, AVL drawings, and general business documents
Must present a professional appearance and handle clients with courtesy and respect
Education and Experience:
The Commissioning Specialist shall possess an Associate’s degree and 5 years industry experience with 2 years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience required to successfully perform the essential job duties of this position. The Commissioning Specialist should possess knowledge of customer relations and communications, project management, job costing and be skilled in supervising and managing people.

Work requires ability to perform job duties on scaffolding, ladders and at various heights. The employee is frequently required to type, talk and hear.
