The Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a Per-Diem Clinical Lab Assistant to support technical laboratory personnel in day-to-day operations of the Histology Laboratories in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This is a Per-Diem position is to provide support for a large Anatomic Laboratories operation.
The Per-Diem Clinical Lab Assistant will be responsible for the preparation and processing of pathology specimens for the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory and will support the day-to-day operations of the Histology Laboratories part of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The incumbent will prepare simple and complex reagents or media under direct supervision. Received, accession and triage specimen material. Answer and monitor all incoming phone inquiries and requests.Â Identify and separate specimens to be referred to outside laboratories or analyzed by other laboratories within USC. Dispose and handle of non-hazardous and hazardous materials according to established safety protocols. Â Maintain and organize laboratory consumables and supplies. In addition, monitor inventory levels and place orders of laboratory supplies when needed. Incumbent will further assist with making work assignments; train new personnel when applicable, and further provide guidance to laboratory personnel as required.
The Clinical Lab Assistant Per-Diem position provides critical support within the Dermapathology/Immunohistochemistry and Outreach department helping to manage our currentÂ work/volume, maintain appropriate TATs and quality service standards, ensure patient safety and be in compliance with all regulatory requirements under CLIA 88 and CAP. Â
This position is intended to fill in full-time or part-time clinical lab assistants out on leave, or when volumes have exceeded than normal. Â Schedule may vary.

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalency.Minimum Experience: 1 year experience as a laboratory assistant in a clinical lab, highly desirable. Required License/Certification:A Fire and Safety card must be presented upon hire or must be obtained at our facility within the first 30 days of hire and maintained by renewing before expiration date.
