We are based in Norwood, Massachusetts, which is comfortably within the Boston metropolitan area. HMF’s facilities include a state-of-the-art plant, and R&D facility, as well as warehouse and Corporate functions.  We are focused on continued growth and are executing against various initiatives that include additional product lines, new sales channels, greater penetration of our extensive customer relationships, as well as opportunistic acquisitions.  Our success is directly dependent on attracting and retaining the best possible talent across our functions.  To this end, we are posting for a strong Regulatory Technologist  for our R&D team.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Regulatory Technologist provides technical expertise to ensure USDA/ FDA compliance of company products and packaging including impending regulations. This person tracks of regulatory quality management programs and works cross functionally with other areas of R&D, QA, production, and marketing, as well as with sales people, vendors, and government agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Assures regulatory compliance of all product labels, cases and promotional material to all applicable rules and regulations of USDA & FDA local and other religious requirements
• Creates and approves all label components such as nutrition fact sheets, ingredient statements– confirming all ingredients to ensure regulatory compliance and potential allergen concerns. 
• Gains USDA and other certification approvals on all applicable products and obtain extensions as necessary
• Creates product specifications and other required documentations for all products, and keeps them up-to-date 
• Works with NPD team to guide product development to ensure all regulatory compliance matters addressed in a timely manner. Issues such as product naming, standards of identity, ingredient legality, allergen management, nutrition, customer specific requirements etc
• Contacts suppliers for ingredient information – raw material specification sheets and work with internal team to generate HMF generic specs. 
• Provides proper documentation on short notice to ensure that all products may be released to sell in a timely manner
• Understands and manages regulatory aspects of HMF systems and processes, including NPD, Specification, Nutrition information, customer portal etc
• Becomes knowledgeable of the operations and provides technical support to Production, QA, R&D, Sales, Customer Service
• Maintains other documentation of work as required
• Maintains a safe working environment and participates actively in safety programs
• Monitors all HACCP requirements and regulations; participates and supports SQF and other customer audits
• Other duties as assigned

 QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science 
• Five+ years of related experience with a food or beverage company
• Critical knowledge of USDA/ FDA regulation with USDA product experience preferred
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal skills; team player
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Creativity, solution finding, detail-oriented
• Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced, environment
• Openness/flexibility
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Knowledge of CFIA regulation a plus
