ACADEMIC PERSONNEL POLICY & ADMINISTRATION ANALYST

The Office of Academic Personnel (OAP) leverages its subject matter expertise and institutional perspective in academic personnel administration to support the recruitment and retention of the University of Washington’s world-class community of faculty, librarians, and academic personnel. We have an outstanding opportunity for an Academic Personnel Policy and Administration Analyst. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost, the Analyst provides professional expertise in the analysis, development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and compliance strategies associated with academic personnel administration. In serving the UW community, the Analyst joins the entire OAP team in promoting and continually aspiring to excellence, collaboration, integrity, innovation, diversity, and respect. The Analyst must have the ability to analyze, interpret, track, and be responsive to dynamic state and federal laws/regulations. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional analytical skills, collaboration, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills in collecting and analyzing data and documents, and in drafting and implementing policies and procedures that advance institutional excellence and adhere to controlling regulations. The Analyst should have considerable experience with employment-related laws and regulations; background in policy analysis, training, personnel management triage, conducting legal/regulatory analysis; and a high level of knowledge and understanding of state and federal guidelines that pertain to higher education personnel policies. OAP is a key administrative unit overseeing policies and processes governing over 18,000 academic personnel at the University of Washington including professorial faculty who are central to advancing the UW's educational and research mission. In providing professional expertise in the analysis, development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and compliance strategies, the work of the Academic Personnel Administration Analyst impacts a wide breadth of support for faculty, librarians, and other academic personnel at the University. Duties & Responsibilities Policy and Compliance (60%) •Provide analysis, guidance, and support on regulation and compliance requirements related to academic personnel administration including, but not limited to, current and proposed policy and regulatory changes with regard to academic personnel employment; labor relations; equal opportunity and affirmative action; family, medical, and other leave regulations; immigration policies and regulations; data privacy and public records; and conflict of interest and ethics regulations. •Collaborate with the OAP team in managing and triaging complaint resolution, including assessment and analysis of appropriate interventions. Research and Data Analysis (25%) •Conduct procedural, policy, and regulatory research to support the development of conclusions, recommendations, and decisions in the academic personnel administration context. •Continuously audit and review current academic personnel policies and implementation. •Monitor, track, and analyze trends and advancements in higher education related to academic personnel issues. Communication, Training, and Outreach (15%) •In coordination with OAP Team, develop and deliver communication and training to the UW community on policy and compliance related issues. •Coordinate with UW Staff Human Resources on shared personnel and employment issues. Requirements include: •Master’s or other advanced degree •Three years’ experience with employment law, labor relations, human resources, compliance, or related work. •Demonstrated success leading initiatives/projects to completion •Experience working on compliance issues in a complex, highly regulated environment •Experience managing and producing complex institutional reports (data and written) •Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills •High level of initiative, judgment, and analytic skills •Ability to monitor, comprehend, and implement relevant state and federal laws/regulations •Experience handling complex issues/sensitive data with discretion and tact •Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional judgement skills •Ability to prioritize work, initiate projects/tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision •Ability to function under time constraints and in emotionally charged situations •Experience working both independently and collaboratively with a team Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. |
