![]() University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF06201 Applications are sought for a full-time Assistant Project Scientist position. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary research team in the laboratory of Dr. Kathrin Plath's Lab in the UCLA Department of Biological Chemistry. The focus of the Plath Lab is on understanding the gene regulatory mechanisms underlying cellular plasticity and differentiation will open the door to manipulate cell identity and gene expression states and to understand disease processes. To uncover such mechanisms, the studies in the lab are informed by two key processes: the reprogramming of somatic cells to the pluripotent state and the regulation of nuclear compartments and gene expression by long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). This position is intended for collaborative research working on single cell RNA and ATAC sequencing technologies and lineage tracing methods to investigate mechanisms underlying cell fate change, with a focus on being able to accomplish both experimental procedures and also develop sophisticated computational analyses. The Plath lab has described many detailed molecular mechanisms that occur during conversion of somatic cells towards induced pluripotent stem cells and is looking to deeply understand the stochastic mechanisms that induce the pluripotent state in somatic cells. In addition, the person hired into this position will lead collaborations with other labs on applying single cell genomics approaches and the computational analysis of the data. A successful candidate(s) will have the following qualifications: RRBS, ChIP-Seq etc. Job duties and responsibilities proposals funding agencies graduate students, postdocs, lab helpers and high school students their operation (tissue culture equipment, microfluidics setups, sequencing preparation machinery such as sonicators) single cell technologies, lineage tracing, and inventive analysis to describe molecular mechanisms that occur during conversion of somatic cells towards induced pluripotent stem cells and in the reverse process of differentiation disease processes using single cell approaches The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence.
