Required Minimum Quals:
Bachelorâs degree and 5 years of related experience
Master's degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications, higher education or another related field. 5 or more years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or another related role. Experience and understanding of communications in a higher education environment Proven success in strategic communications planning and execution. Demonstrated experience in writing a variety of communications, including speeches, presentations, press releases, memos, and reports. Demonstrated competency working with diverse stakeholders and an understanding of current student issues and trends in higher education.
The Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs is seeking a Strategic Communications Officer.
Summary Works on internal and external communications projects. Provides customer relations information to external clients or customers, which may include sensitive subject matter. May assist in providing communication consultation to internal departments. May provide functional advice and training to less-experienced communication staff.
Example of Duties â¢ Works on internal and external communications projects, including website and intranet creation, management of media, public relations and press releases. â¢ Assists with the implementation of a strategic communications program to help build brand image. â¢ Conducts the required research and analysis to prepare presentations and scripts/speeches for management and executives. â¢ Provides customer relations information to external clients or customers. â¢ Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining internal and external policies and programs to ensure that the organization is represented positively to the media, the general public, and stakeholders including media relations, government and regulatory liaison, company branding, events management, and internal employee communications. â¢ Participates in development of institutional communication policy.
â¢ Facilitates regular monthly meetings among all Division of Student Affairs communications/marketing staff.
Level Guidelines â¢ Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISUâs mission and department or work unit goals â¢ Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude â¢ Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action â¢ Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices â¢ Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to other staff â¢ May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team) â¢ May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist â¢ Provides guidance to students
