Ojai Valley School is a pre-kindergarten to grade 12 boarding and day school located on two campuses in Ojai, California. The Lower Campus serves students in grades PK-8 and the Upper Campus serves students in grades 9-12.

Summary of Position

Ojai Valley School, Lower Campus is seeking a well-qualified candidate to serve as a Dorm Parent.  The Dorm Parent, under the supervision of the Head of School, Lower Campus, is responsible for the day-to-day management and instruction of students in his or her charge.  The Dorm Parent must be willing to live on campus, housing is provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Awakens children each morning and ensures children are dressed, fed, and ready for school or other activity.
  2. Gives instructions to children regarding desirable health and personal habits.
  3. Plans and leads after school recreational activities and participates or instructs children in games.
  4. Organizes dorm nights.
  5. Assists with Dress dinner and entertainment.
  6. Supervise study hall and monitor homework.
  7. Disciplines children and recommends or initiates other measures to control behavior.
  8. Counsels children.
  9. Maintains parent contact.
  10. Provides leadership in fire drills and disaster procedures.
  11. Administers minor first-aid.
  12. Appoints dorm captains.
  13. Organize dorm leadership program.
  14. Responsible for security.
  15. Supervises children's housekeeping duties.
  16. Provides daily room checks.
  17. Responsible for laundry and linens.
  18. Responsible for lost and found.
  19. Furnish and maintains recreation room.
  20. Maintains a clean form and focus on aesthetic improvements of dormitory.
  21. Coordinates weekend duty and alternate sleepovers.
  22. Provides phone coverage as assigned.
  23. Prepares Dorm Reports.
  24. Completes daily logbook.
  25. Prepares comments.
  26. Coordinates with the Weekend Supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Four-year degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common trade and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to management, and parents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  1. California driver's license preferred.
  2. Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
