About the Position: The tenure-track, Academic Specialist Director enjoys a 195 day work schedule, and coordinates the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and Distance Education Program (CCFT 126.96.36.199). The TLC offers a range of academic technology services and programs to faculty and staff, including leadership and support for the college learning management system and accompanying applications, professional development support, and training and certification of online instructors. This position is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of training, and subsequent support services that sustain effective, equitable, and innovative technology use both online and in the physical classroom. In addition, the position will coordinate with the Dean of Education Centers, Dual Enrollment, and Distance Education to ensure all regulatory requirements are met, documented, and services are aligned with other college constituencies; including curriculum, information technology, student equity, student services, and education initiatives including state and federal grants.
The position begins on May 17, 2021, pending Governing Board ratification. Services will be in a traditional "office" setting once it is safe to resume classes on-site.

Starting Salary Range: $57,157 to $87,673 per year + 20 additional days; salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $3,816 is granted to eligible faculty.

• Plans, organizes, directs, integrates, and evaluates the work of the Teaching and Learning Center; implements and monitors work plans for the Distance Education Program to achieve goals and objectives.
• Contributes to development of and monitors performance of the Distance Education Program to achieve annual objectives; creates Board of Trustee reports and Chancellor’s Office reports.
• Acts as liaison between college and Chancellor’s Office online education initiatives
• In collaboration with administration, faculty, and classified staff, contributes to the planning and development of academic technology solutions for instructional programs and services.
• Provides timely academic assistance and related services to all employees during scheduled service hours
• Directs and manages classified staff and student workers.
• Participates in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
• Makes presentations to the Board of Trustees, and other District groups.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
• Ensures District compliance with California Code of Regulations Title 5, accreditation standards and Board Policies and Administrative Procedures; collaborates on the implementation and integration of Distance Education regulations
• Completes required District training such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.
Education and Experience:
• Master’s in instructional design/technology or educational technology OR the Equivalent
• Demonstrated ability to use and teach academic technology applications
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other college constituencies

Required Professional Expertise:
• Successful online teaching experience
• Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable field, technology training and knowledge of operating systems, learning management systems, various educational technology applications, and live synchronous online teaching.
• Knowledge of curriculum development, and curriculum management applications
• Knowledge managing a learning management system or other complex application as an administrator
• Knowledge of active learning classroom technology
• Knowledge of Information Technology support services, including security and privacy procedures
• Knowledge of and commitment to the community college philosophy, including Guided Pathways
• Knowledge of and commitment to equity-minded and culturally responsive teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success
• Demonstrated responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning)
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
