Seeds Quality Manager - NA Soybean Seeds (2100318) - Champaign, IL
Where the Chemistry Happens...
The soybean seeds Quality Manager is responsible for BASF's overall quality management program, and day-to-day management and execution of our NA soybean seed production quality processes and systems. Scope includes leadership of quality management, quality assurance, and quality control processes for all foundation seed and commercial soybean seed multiplier facilities. This position ensures both internal and external 3 rd party production sites, including counter season sites in South America, are following our soybean seed quality standards, testing, and reporting requirements, including leading performance audits. You will also be responsible for oversight and supervision of all our internal and 3 rd party lab activities. The quality manager also maintains strong connectivity to the global seed quality team to ensure alignment with global and regional quality policies, initiatives, and standards.
Formula for Success: You Will...
Responsible for BASF's Quality Management & Stewardship standards for soybean seed production are effectively communicated and adhered by our network of 23 commercial seed tollers, and 4 foundation seed plants.
Responsible for document control management including management of quality standards; SOP's & Work Instructions; management of change, quality deviations and variances, customer complaints (NCM's), and CAPA's, etc.
Acts in the capacity of a "Field Quality" Mgr collaborating closely working alongside the foundation and commercial production team to develop strategies to improve quality, and resolve quality issues at multiplier locations.
Works closely the NA Regional QM & Stewardship managers to continually improve our QM & Stewardship policies & procedures. i.e. Customer Experience project, Quality Days, etc.
Works closely with Commercial Production Managers and NA Regional QM Manager to lead investigation of incidents of non-conforming seed and customer complaints, as they relate to seed quality, document findings, and lead implementation of corrective and preventative actions (CAPA's) to mitigate reoccurrence.
Quality Assurance & Quality Control
Provides on-site training to multiplier sites and multiplier lab partners includes development of training materials as it relates to quality control, complaint investigations, etc.
Acts as liaison between legal and genetic and trait suppliers to ensure compliance with their trait and genetics stewardship requirements
Responsible for maintaining documentation of all seed testing results to meet state and regulatory approvals.
Manage tracking of samples to third party laboratories for testing
Ensure test results are reviewed in a timely manner through communication with third party laboratories and internal personnel.
Leads the sample retention process, including sample storage and tracking plans.
Review test data to ensure it is completed, accurate, and within quality standards for the crop.
Ensure test data is uploaded to BASF systems and batch decisions are communicated internally or to third party.
Quality Systems & Support
Is a "super user" of the SAP-QM and SeedLIMS systems to capture all testing data, perform analysis, and use data to drive decisions to help improve seed production operations.
Responsible to ensure accurate labeling of bags & tags with trait, seed treatments, and seed quality analysis information to meet federal and state seed law requirements.
Leads quality interface, system design, and connectivity of quality to the ScopeX field management system.
Leads our continuous improvement initiatives, develops and shares best practices, with other crops, countries, etc.
Develops KPI's, reports, and dashboards to help monitor business results as it relates to quality, and supports decision making at the S&OE tactical meetings.
Collaborates and leads harmonized audit process connecting quality, stewardship, EHS, and operations together as a single audit.
Works with local state boards and local authorities to resolve seed quality related issues.
Supervises seasonal employees and contractors who support seed quality activities.
Attends and participates in monthly safety training, toolbox meetings, and ensures contract employees follow all safety policies. May lead one or more safety programs for the site.
Assists as needed in soybean operations or other assignments as directed by management.
Five years of experience in quality management or quality assurance/control, seed production, seed logistics, or agribusiness; or 8-10 years applicable business experience in seed production/research/logistics.
ISO 9001 or similar experience with equivalent quality management systems.
Experience with documenting customer complaints, leading non-conformance investigations, developing CAPA's, and implementing process improvements.
Five years' experience working with Stewardship and Regulatory preferred.
Five years of continuous improvement experience preferred with competencies in Lean/Six Sigma, and demonstrated competencies with process mapping, route cause analysis, problem solving, etc.
Demonstrated capability and willingness to develop skills and advance career to a role in commercial production operations, or supply chain management.
