In this role you will provide legal support for a broad range of matters currently undertaken by the legal team in Asia, including support of Japan, Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong with focus on matters relating to Distribution and Discretionary asset management for Institutional clients and funds registration.
Responsibilities
How you'll spend your time.... You will be joining a dynamic Global Asset Management legal and compliance team that provides a broad range of advice to Columbia Threadneedle's Global Asset Management business. As a member of the Global Asset Management legal team, you will interact frequently with lawyers and business partners based in EMEA, Asia and North America. In addition, you will also join a larger legal and compliance team that is part of the General Counsel's Organisation of Ameriprise Financial, a publicly traded, Fortune 500 financial services company. In this role, you will be:
Responsible for legal support across the entities and businesses within Asia Pacific region
Providing comprehensive legal advice, solutions and support in all aspects of the asset management business. This includes reviewing fund documents, applications for fund registrations, distribution agreements, investment management agreements and delegation agreements.
Partnering with internal and external clients to prevent, mitigate and control legal risks
Preparing and ensure legal documentation and filings are accurate and complete
Providing and delivering legal advice on various matters including regulatory developments, distribution activities, new business initiatives and products and corporate secretarial for the various legal entities
Liaising with relevant business partners as well as external law firms and regulatory agencies on various matters including funds registrations and distribution activities in various jurisdictions
Working closely with Compliance in Asia Pacific on compliance advisory to the business for activities that span across the region
Working closely with the broader global GCO on various matters to support the Global Asset Management business and act as one of the contact persons for legal matters in Asia Pacific
Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will have....
Qualified lawyer with experience in working within a Financial Services business and familiar with local regulations and good understanding of doing business rules for different jurisdictions in the region
Capable of working autonomously as well as in a team on assignments
Pragmatic and proactive approach to problem-solving
Relevant experience (in-house or private practice) supporting an in-house legal or product department of an asset manager or other financial services organisation
Intellectually curious, proactive and adaptable with a strong attention to detail
Excellent oral and written communication skills
High attention to detail and well-organized
Preferred Qualifications

Ability to read and write Chinese is a strong advantage
Experience dealing in Japanese market
Experience with the securities laws in Japan, Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong
