The Department of Surgery is seeking an experienced Research Specialist to plan, organize and execute clinical trials and clinical research grants in the Department of Surgery.
Duties will include: Develop clinical trial and grant proposals and budgets in collaboration with the PI's in the Department of Surgery. Develop and manage regulatory and IRB documentation for proposed and ongoing studies in the Department of Surgery. Provide clinical research expertise by participating in the design and implementation of research projects. Develop, implement, and evaluate research activities as well as correspond with sponsor, UMCIRB, Data Coordinating Center and other research sites, if applicable, to coordinate activities and ensure appropriate implementation of research projects. Host site visits by prospective study sponsors, including preparation and presentation of site visit reports to sponsors and PI. Prepare and present study-specific reports, including but not limited to subject accrual and screen failures for research group and sponsor. Prepare for and participate in all audits. Actively participate in division research meetings.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

The Department of Surgery is a clinical department within the School of Medicine with the attendant responsibility for medical education and research. The Chair of the department is also the Chief of Surgical services for the hospital. The department includes 36 full-time faculty members in the sections of: transplant surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, general and bariatric surgery, and trauma and acute care surgery. It also includes clinical and basic science research labs. The 70+ employees in the department support our clinical, education and research programs.
