The successful candidate for this position will join a team of professionals who together share in the goal of supporting scientific discovery and academic excellence. This individual will meet with scientific investigators to determine data support and management requirements and provide input on best practice for designing electronic data capture systems and databases. The candidate will conduct thorough testing of the electronic versions of study instruments to ensure a smooth launch of data collection; provide ongoing surveillance of data quality; and report on the progress of study deliverables. The candidate will participate in meetings for maximal familiarity with projects; participate in development and implementation of system testing plans and procedures; work closely with staff members to ensure successful implementation of study design and testing of new and existing systems; and act as a liaison between the investigator’s project staff and CTSI staff for executing design and testing decisions. The candidate will provide reports to supervisors on project progress; identify and communicate issues requiring management attention and drive deliverables; independently write sections of reports and presentations; and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate interactions with faculty, study staff, outside agencies, and sponsors. Candidate will adhere to policies of regulatory compliance and good practice. The candidate will explore and utilize new technologies and/or improvements that relate to job assignments, and proactively explore creative solutions to address project needs. Other job duties include: preparing and leading meetings and conference calls with investigators to define needed deliverables; communicate project requirements to software developers and IT staff; gather input to assist in the preparation of a statement of work, which incorporates protocol requirements and team feedback into written informatics work plans and budgets. The candidate will participate in preparing project plans and schedules for stakeholder approval; ensure project plans remain on schedule; and develop documentation and training materials for project staff.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired though a four-year college degree program in a related research field, preferably in a science, social science, statistics, epidemiology, computer science, or similar discipline, three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a biomedical or social science research support capacity related to the duties to be performed with faculty, investigators and/or staff, outside agencies, sponsors, and research participants, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with health-related data systems and/or familiarity with REDCap. Experience leading projects of a complex nature. Ability to work independently and master new concepts quickly and to work on deadline-driven projects. Can identify and creatively solve problems. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers and other community IT staff. Candidate will adhere to policies of regulatory compliance and good practices. Individual must have or must complete required Institutional Review Board (IRB) training and certification within the first 30 days of employment.
Work experience in two or more of the following: research data collection; coordinating overall data management and other informatics support; client support; writing programs for data preparation for analysis; management systems software support; training staff in the use of informatics tools.
Master's degree in science, social science, statistics, epidemiology, computer science, or similar discipline; graduate level courses in public health, or other demonstration or interest in professional or educational development; five or more years of experience in a biomedical, clinical trial, epidemiology, public health, or social science research support capacity; excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to facilitate interactions with faculty, investigators, staff, outside agencies, and sponsors. Experience using SAS, SPSS, SQL and/or R.
