This is an exciting opportunity to work in a high-volume COVID-19 clinical testing laboratory. As part of this newly-developed production laboratory, Harvard University will be utilizing novel automation systems to expand COVID-19 testing capabilities. The Lead Technologist will perform supervisory functions and use independent judgment to manage complex molecular procedures and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of cutting-edge technologies.
Independently perform and document appropriate quality control, instrument preventative maintenance, and function checks. Troubleshoot and follow up on any problems/issues.
Follow the laboratory's procedures when the laboratory's test systems are not within established acceptable levels of performance. Perform and review investigations of non-conforming events and documentation of corrective actions based on laboratory guidelines.
Collaborates in maintaining a robust quality management program through the evaluation of quality data and implementation of continuous quality improvement initiatives in the laboratory.
Participates in administrative oversight of the laboratory information management system (LIMS). Responsibilities include a review of status reports and pending logs, test dictionary maintenance and testing of system updates, LIMS end-user training, and assisting staff members, vendors, or internal IT resources with troubleshooting LIMS issues.
Schedule and manage resources to meet department goals.
Trains new technologists and participate in competency assessments of staff
Supervise staff and handle personnel issues, including the hiring/termination, development, and performance management of lab staff.
Exhibit excellent customer service skills; Collaborates with other departments and clients regarding inquiries and test results.
Follow the laboratory's safety protocols in adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements.
Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA.
Must perform all duties of a Medical Laboratory Technologist, including specimen handling, processing, testing, and result reporting according to the laboratory's standard operating procedures.
Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
PLEASE NOTE: This position is located on-site in Cambridge. This is a fully benefits-eligible position. The position is an 18-month term position, with the possibility of renewal. As business needs change, the hours/days of work may change. There may also be an additional need to work overtime and/or weekends. Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
A college degree preferably in a related discipline and a minimum of three years of directly related work experience is required.
Academic credits that meet CLIA requirements for supervisor of high complexity testing.
Supervisory experience is preferred.
Must exhibit strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and excellent problem-solving ability.
