As the Laboratory Section Manager at the Newark campus, you will lead and manage the day to day functions of the General Laboratory, ensuring a cohesive approach in the delivery of high quality, efficient and cost-effective laboratory services.
The Manager plays a key role in the planning and development of strategies and goals with other leaders in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, demonstrating our commitment to being exceptional today and even better tomorrow.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages the activities of the day, evening and morning laboratory staff and supervisory personnel for the General Laboratory on the Newark campus. Assumes responsibility for scheduling, performance evaluation, coaching, disciplinary action, transfer, promotion, termination, salary adjustment, hiring and the training of new caregivers.
Establishes and manages, in conjunction with Clinical Biochemist, Technical Specialists, Supervisors and the Quality Control Coordinator, the Quality Control program for the General Laboratory, ensuring corrective action and documentation when necessary.
Establishes performance improvement initiatives specific, involving caregivers in the process.
Identifies and implements opportunities to improve efficiency, caregiver engagement, the patient experience, and develops new programs accordingly.
Maintains standards necessary to meet all requirements of CAP, the Joint Commission and other inspection and/or regulatory agencies.
Maintains and updates, in conjunction with respective section managers and laboratory leadership, the capital and operating budgets.
Keeps informed of technological advances and industry best practices by reviewing related professional publications and attending regional and national meetings.
Plans and develops strategies and goals with laboratory leadership demonstrating ChristianaCare's commitment to serving together.
Organizes and conducts regular departmental meetings and maintains effective oral and written communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or related science
At least five (5) years medical technology experience required
Three (3) years supervisory preferred
ASCP Certification or equivalent required within 6 months of hire
Knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and procedures, including procedures for infection prevention
Knowledge of instrumentation currently available for the General Laboratories
Knowledge of accreditation requirements for CAP, Joint Commission, and other regulatory agencies
Ability to complete cost analysis evaluations
Ability to coordinate work schedules and staffing to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency
